volume+ custom programming

Post by AmazinglySmooth » Wed Sep 12, 2018 11:51 am

For my factory steering wheel controls, I prefer to have volume + and - send repeated commands when held. So when I flashed my Rr I selected volume+ for both press and press/hold (same for volume-). For volume- this works great, but volume+ only increases to 15 on my Kenwood 6705S. When I hold volume+ it will increase from any value less than 15 to 15 and stops. If the volume is above 15 already, then holding volume+ only moves it up by one. Can this be fixed in firmware?

It is a limitation of the Kenwood radio. There is nothing we or any other manufactuer of a SWC interface can do.

Can you not send repeated volume+ commands?

On Kenwood, only up until 15. It works the exact same way if you push and hold the volume up button on your radio. This is a Kenwood thing, so we can't change how the radio is programmed to operate- I guess they don't want you to accidentally deafen yourself cranking up the volume too fast?

It seems to me that you can mimic tapping + on the unit since I can do it with the mechanical button. So instead of sending the command "volume+ held" send "volume+", "volume+", "volume+", repeatedly. Maybe it is too slow to do so, but it seems that it would work since I can do that with my steering wheel controls myself.

our engineers are not going to write a code that does not perform the function as the manufactuer intended. the issue lies with in the kenwoods protocol for the controls. you are more then welcome to call Kenwood and see if they are willing to change the way they intended the system to operate.
