'14 Ford Focus bluetooth connectivity

Post by plinky » Sat Aug 25, 2018 2:19 pm

Purchased this unit this week. Updated the Maestro firmware for universal mode (v 1.4), then updated the DSRA firmware to 1.7.3.0. Running this unit in a base level Focus ST with just stock head unit to the DSR1 in universal mode to a 5 channel amp (4 speakers, sub). According to what I've read the Maestro part of the DSR1 is not used? Would that explain why I'm having Bluetooth connection issues with the Perfect Tune app? While I'm on the subject, is the Perfect Tune app even usable in universal mode?

The PF app is definitely usable in standalone mode. You just need to take your DSR1 out, update it on our site, and do the BLE update (this update is for the bluetooth chip, and it helps with connectivity issues).

Forgot to mention that that was the first update (BLE) I performed. I still get the "connection error" message when connecting to the DSR1 with my phone.

iPhone7. I was behind in updates (updating at this moment). iOS need to be latest & greatest?

I'm not sure; that definitely could be a cause, but since we don't make the app (Rockford does), they would know best if there are compatibility issues with older versions of iOS.

Phone is updated, but I'll have to reconnect the DSR1 to my vehicle (took it out, connected my amp direct for the time being). I'll update when I get it back in. Had no problems with sound, just the Bluetooth issue. I'd get a Green, then Blue, then White LED & that's about it, followed by the error message, didn't see any changing of the LED color when changing parameters, so I know it wasn't communicating.

Is there by any chance a way to erase everything & start the update process all over if needed? I have that issue sometimes with the diagnostic interface I use here at work (GM tech) & I have a process to start from scratch & reinstall everything.

The closest thing to wiping it would be to update the Maestro's standalone firmware from our website. There's not a way to undo/redo the BLE update.

Well getting a reply from Rockford is like pulling teeth, so I'm trying to see if the seller will swap it out.

Seller agreed to swap out. Will update when new one arrives. I will probably consult here to make sure I didn't miss a hidden step in updating it before I install it.

Received my replacement DSR1 today (thanks vendor & USPS for not leaving a message that it arrived in the leasing office 3 days ago).

Anywho, is there a recommended procedure for updating this thing not listed on the Fosgate or Maestro websites that I need to follow so I don't brick this one? I just want to set it up universal using front & rear High level from my stock unit to provide front & rear & sub low level to a JL 700w 5 ch amp.

So I connect the DSR1 to my PC (Internet Explorer 11), got to the Maestro site, log in, it detects the DSR1 & proceeds to the flash page. Shows me the following :

Maestro DSR1
Serial: 85CBD0BCF5
Firmware: ADS-AR-DC-UNI-256 (v1.4)
Hardware: AR-DC (256)

Under that are two links, one to start config & the other below it to update the BLE, followed by this:

Embedded Device
ADS-MAR-DC internal BLE module
Serial: 365B2AA0D3
Firmware: ADS-AR-DC-BLE-256 (v1.2)
Hardware: BLEARDC

I click on the BLE update, it flashes the module, shows success, I click on the refresh device link at the upper left of the page, when it reloads it's still showing an update for BLE. Tried it two more times, but it will not go away. What am I doing wrong?

We recently changed our site to always show the BLE update, even if you've already done it. This is normal.

That's what I thought. Thank you for clarifying that, as it was not that way last I visited it. When I get a moment (hopefully soon) I'll pull my car in the shop & plug it in & see if the Bluetooth concerns have been addressed.
