2011 Outback - Backup camera not working

Post by smrbrts » Mon Jul 30, 2018 8:15 am

Using the Maestro RR and the SU1 harness, I've got the head unit installed and fully functional except the backup camera which shows no image. I've double checked the connections and think they are OK, but whenever I attempt to view the image on the Kenwood DDX9903S, I get no image and see only the guide lines.

I still get the image in the rearview mirror, so I'm not sure I even care all that much, but that part of me that wants this to work perfectly would like to get it working.

Did we grab the camera signal wires from the display in the mirror harness?

By "we" do you mean "me"?

I used connector "C" which has two wires, one that connects via the yellow connector the the RCA backup camera video input on the head unit and the other that connects to the blue connector in the SU1. This connector then plugs into the only connector in the vehicle harness that matches it. Unless I swapped it with the white connector, I don't see where else it could have gone wrong.

Unless there was something else I was supposed to do that I missed.

when the rear view mirror has the backup camera video the harness behind the radio doesn't have the backup camera wires. you can tap into the video wires at the mirror and run them down to the radio if you like, many people do that.

Thanks, Bill. I'll just glance up at the mirror. I'm sure it would take me half a day to get that apart and find the right wire and run a wire to where I need it and get it all back together. I'll live with it as it is.

Seems like idataLink should update the instructions or add a note to the wiring diagrams. Or maybe I just missed it.

Wire colors should be the same at the connector on the mirror. Use a 12' RCA and solder onto the two video signal wires and run it down to the radio.
