2015 Highlander with Kenwood DDX9904s no TPMS

Post by bdjohnso3 » Fri Jul 20, 2018 7:44 am

Just installed a Kenwood DDX9904s in my Highlander. Everything seems to work except for TPMS. On the car info screen it says N/A, and inside the menus, it says that the TPMS is not detected. But the compatibility pages says I should be getting this info. Thoughts?

1) make sure the OBD2 connector with the single wire in it from our T harness is connected to the OBD2 connector under the drivers side dash
2 )do a Maestro module reset from the Kenwoods menu (OEM Settings/Maestro Settings/Maestro Module/Module Master Reset/(push to reset))
3) you may have to drive the Highlander to wake up the TPMS sensors if it has been sitting overnight or for a while

I tried a reset yesterday to no avail, and I've driven the car a bit already, but it still doesn't show.

I have the Highlander with JBL, and the install instructions said that the OBD2 wire wasn't necessary. That would certainly explain why I'm not getting that data. I'll give that a try this afternoon and report back. Thanks.

I noticed an unrelated thing while driving today: the screen in the instrument cluster tells me the speed of my cruise control, but the gauges on my HU don't report the same speed. For example, the car says I set cruise at 70 mph and the gauges showed my speed at ~67. Any reason for the discrepancy? (More a curiosity than a concern.)

i was wrong about the OBD2...you don't use it, we get the info from behind the radio. is the Highlander a Canadian version?
did you replace the OEM wheels with new ones?

I bought the car used, but I am in the States. The rims have the Toyota logo, so I assume they're OEM.

if after the reset you are still getting NA and the menu still says that TPMS is not detected, it's very possible that this Highlander just doesn't provide the TPMS information on the data bus.

Is there any way to test this? I believe there are only a few trim levels with JBL, so it would be surprising to have TPMS data available on some of them but not on others.

You can deflate a tire and see if the TPMS light pops up on the dash. If it doesn't, there is no signal/no sensors.
