2013 FJ: gauges sort of working...?

Post by jonares » Thu Jul 12, 2018 7:11 pm

Hello -

Just had a Pioneer AVIC-W8400NEX installed in my 2013 FJ - I had another Pioneer deck with this same Maestro RR installed. On the previous Pioneer (8100NEX) the steering wheel controls worked great, but no vehicle data (gauges, etc) - reading around, it was a Pioneer thing, not iDatalink. Anyway, new head unit; steering wheel controls work great, gauges sort of work.... some do, some don't, but I'm not 100% sure if they're supposed to with the FJ.
Driver door open works - not passenger.
Fuel gauge: I set the tank size, and right now, there's text bouncing around 70-80% as I drive around the neighborhood street. What does this refer to? AND - there's no actual gauge indicator - the 'needle' is all the way down on the left. Is this supposed to indicate fuel level?
Fuel range: it gives me a number, but I'm not sure if it's anywhere close to accurate - given the unknown function of the other gauge described above.
RPM seems to work.
TPMS seems to be right.
Any suggestions on the fuel stuff, and the door ajar stuff? Thanks!

We are only displaying the info that is being provide to us from the vehicle. If it is not providing us the message that door is open it may possibly be a bad door trigger switch.

Fuel metrics are dependent on the manual input and accuracy of the fuel tank capacity. Refer to your owners manual to ensure that the capacity size is correct. It is recommended to recalibrate the PID's and drive the vehicle afterwords to ensure that the fuel metrics calibrate correctly.

Thank you - I'll try resetting the PIDs. I did enter the correct fuel tank size already. I'll also check to see if the vehicle signals whether the passenger door is open or not.

New-found anomaly: all steering wheel controls do NOT function IF I start the car IN Apple Carplay mode. If I shut down the engine while the head unit (Pioneer AVIC-W8400NEX) is in Carplay, when I start back up, no steering wheel controls are working. I saw a forum post about a Jeep having a similar problem with an Alpine head unit a year or so ago - is this a Pioneer problem? It's a new head unit, and they haven't released any firmware updates yet....

With regards to the SWC do we have anything plugged into the port on the back of the radio labeled WR?
