External Temp display wrong

Post by Matt932 » Wed Jun 27, 2018 4:18 pm

On my JVC kw-v840bt radio in the Gages section, it shows all my RPM, Coolant temp and ECT correctly

the only issue is my external temp is 10 degrees higher then the actual. Verified this by turning on old radio and the old one displays correctly. Not sure how to see if this is a datalink or radio issue..

when first installed, it displayed correctly

If you look at the climate screen, does the external temperature shown match what the external temperature gauge displays? Or are they different values?

The maestro is reading the data lines at the OBD2 (the same ones that a scan tool would connect to), so the temperature that line reports is the temperature that the data line is sending. The radio doesn't have the same diagnostic lines as the OBD2, so the OEM radio is reading the temperature from a different data line, which could pull information from a totally different sensor, giving you a different result.

Is it ALWAYS a steady 10 degrees higher, or does it fluctuate a bit when you start driving around?

It’s usually 10 degrees, sometime fluctuates. Once I awhile it’s correct. But that’s after like 1hr of driving sometimes. I’m confused because it was working fine

If it fluctuates, it's not a coding error- that means what we're displaying from the raw data on the scan tool data lines is accurate, as far as what the sensor is reporting.
