Maestro RR preventing remote start

Post by zmilin » Wed Jun 06, 2018 11:33 pm

Hi, I have a 2018 4 Runner Limited (push to start). I installed a Kenwood DMX905S using the Maestro RR and later (a few weeks) added a remote start. The remote start is a Directed DB3 configured for RSR. The issue is that the Maestro seems to be interrupting the remote starter.

If I unplug the Maestro the remote start works with no issue. Starts and runs for the full 20 min run time.
If the Maestro is plugged in the remote start will start normally but only run for about 15-20 seconds.
The plug that seems to effect this is the 18pin plug on the Maestro. I disconnected all then plugged them in (starting with the 3 pin power plug) one by one, starting between plugs and waiting at least 1 full minute until one plug caused the issue. It happened to be the last plug which was the 18 pin.

Any advice?

Is the accessory circuit of the vehicle powered by the remote start? Asked a different way- when you remote start the vehicle, does the radio power up? If not, it needs to. I believe this should eliminate the conflict.

Under the OEM Setup > Gauges > OBD2 communication, try setting the communication to "Enabled On Demand".

I should also add that the OBDII connection has been unplugged.

I had a chance to do some additional testing today. I was able to interrupt the accessory wire feeding the radio & Meastro. By doing so I was able to start the vehicle. My issue is that I don't have a trigger to use to make this happen only when the remote start is active.

As we discussed last week on the phone the DB3 does not have a GWR output in RSR mode. Therefore you are going to need a standard remote start system in conjunction with the DB3 to provide that GWR output to trigger the radio ACC isolation relay needed to keep the radio from turning on during remote start. Looking at the install guides for the DB3 its not that much more complicated the the RSR install and you still can use your factory remote if that is why you went with the DB3 RSR to begin with.
