Toyota Tacoma JBL with Alpine iLX-207 unit

Post by nenecita » Fri May 04, 2018 9:21 am

Hi, I just replaced my old Alpine INE-W957HD on my Toyota Tacoma 2011 with JBL system, Maestro rR and L&R steering controls. It worked fine until this week when I replaced the head unit with my brand new iLX-207. At first I thought it would be a PNP task, but the maestro Rr did not work and a blinking red led was the only result I had.

After that, I flashed the Maestro Rr with the following settings:
Make:Toyota
Year:2011
Model: Tacoma
Trim: With JBL
Steering Wheel: ⅓ with left and right buttons
Radio Brand: Alpine
Radio Model: ILX-207

Then a popup window asked me for the serial number and as you say on the instruction paper it should be a number starting in S or B containing 9 characters and discarding the last if it is a letter. In my case the serial starts with a B, then eight numbers and finally an A (like B12345678A) and when I enter the 9 characters, it tells me it's an invalid number, then I tried including the last letter "A" (10 characters) with success.

Then I configure the system with the OEM options shown:
-Steering wheel Controls (selected)
-Factory Amplifier (selected)
-Gauges (selected)
-Vehicle Info (selected)
X Radar Detector Integration (this is faded)
(I wish there could be a TPMS option since my truck comes with a factory TPMS installed)

Finally I setup the Steering buttons as decided and flashing completes.

But the system is still not working, could you please help me with that issue?

Is there any wiring diagram showing the Maestro A harness clearly with the pin numbers and cable colors available? That's because I lost the guide I made before taking apart the unused cables on my old system and I'm afraid there's something missing there

What is the light on the maestro doing? Is the radio turning on?

Now the light is off. And now I made a factory reset with the unit pressing the programming button and as the led flashes in red I released it and the light when to green for about 2 seconds turning off after that. I noticed the steering volume worked while the green led was on.

After that I got a "CAN Communication error" message on the alpine unit and the MAESTRO option faded grey.

It sounds like the maestro and the radio aren't communicating.

There is an all black, 4-pin data cable that goes between the maestro and the radio. Is that plugged in? If so, is it plugged into the red, blue, or black port on the RR? It should be in the black port.

Past that, we need you to call in to our support line when you're in the vehicle for further troubleshooting. It is MUCH easier on the phone than through forums.

Yes it's connected to the black port "H"next to the MAESTRO main power and on the other end to the i-datalink of the radio. The power connector "G" yellow and Black cables are connected to the +12V and Ground as well as on the radio.

Is there no problem with the serial number I entered?

But before making the call, I would really appreciate if you could provide me with a wiring diagram or coding pinout of the black 18pin "A" harness, I wanna make sure the six cables I left connected are in their right position.

There could be an issue with the serial number- that's why it's best if you call, so we can look up how you flashed it and check it for you.

We are not able to distribute the pinouts from our t-harnesses.

Can you elaborate on specifically what is "not working" ?

Thank you, but before making the call I would really appreciate if you could help me with the complete "A" 18pin connector harness pinout on the Maestro Rr, just to make sure every cable is in it's right position.

Looking form the wires with the connector tab on top from left to right:

1: Purple Red = SW1 (Steering wheel control)
2: Pink Red = SW2 (Steering wheel control
3: Empty
4: Brown Red = OBD2 CANH
5: Empty
6: Empty
7: Gray Red = +12V ACC
8: Empty
9: Empty

10: Empty
11: Empty
12: Empty
13: Brown Yellow = OBD2 CANL
14: Empty
15: Empty
16: Empty
17: Empty
18: Black White = SWG (Steering wheel control)

Your harness isn't pinned right, nor do the colors match. Where did you get your harness?

Even so.... The 18 pin connector has nothing to do with the problem you're describing above; is there something else that's going on? If not, please give us a call so we can check the things that are relevant to your issue.
