Ford Sync DMX905S

Post by suchtrk » Mon Apr 23, 2018 8:57 pm

I cannot figure out how to pair my phone to sync with the new kenwood DMX905S. when i activate sync the kenwood responds and will display no paired phones when i ask sync for "phone" and it times out trying to connect. i have the maestro RR wired up and Sync selected in the maestro menu for hands free but for the life of me can not find the area to pair the phone to sync. all i can find is the Kenwood bluetooth menu. any help would be greatly appreciated.

vehicle: 2011 Ford F350, no nav just sync
Installed:
Kenwood DMX905S
Maestro RR
FO1 harness

make sure you are not paired to the Kenwood radio by chance for Phone too, that can cause issues.
Have you tried saying "Help" when in the Sync phone menu? It will give you a list of options you can do including pair a phone. Also when doing this make sure your phone is in Discoverable mode otherwise Sync will never find you.

currently the phone is not paired with the kenwood or the sync system. i can find the location to pair with the kenwood but not the sync. i attempted to reach the help menu through voice when i got off work but it looks like when i push the voice button on the steering wheel instead of going to a top menu in sync its going to the line in menu so it won't let me access a help menu associated with the phone section. all it does is try to connect to a phone but since it isn't paired it can't find one.

It's much easier to pair through the radio menus.

-First, make sure that your Handsfree calling menu is set to 'use sync' (found in the OEM Setup menu).

-Second, go to the sync phone menu (found in the source menu). Hit the gear/wrench icon to enter setup, and hit 'add'. That should initiate the pairing process with sync.

Sync is selected under the OEM setup in the av>OEM setup>sync but in the sources menu where the hell radio,USB,sat radio are listed there is no sync phone option is it hidden somewhere else on the DMX905S?

It's not hidden at all- it's among all of your sources. You should see menus for your gauges, vehicle info, sync media, and sync phone. It might just be called "phone".

I apologise for my wording in the last post. I am on mobile as I can't login at work.

For the sources menu the only options I have are. Hd radio ,weblink ,SiriusXM, Bluetooth, Spotify, Pandora, iPod, USB, av-in, audio, standby, vehicle info, satellite ,radio media player , bt streaming, radar detector ,gauges, climate ,parking assist.

There is a tel button on the bottom navigation bar but that goes to the Kenwood phone menu and there are no options for sync in that menu

It might be best if you either take pictures of your radio screens and post them here, and we can help you point them out- OR call us at the support line in our signature. With stuff like this, it's really hard to help just in writing.

i called in to the help line and talked to a tech and he said the same there that there should be a sync phone button but there is not. I did however find it buried in a sub menu by complete accident as i was taking a video to send to you guys. i found it in BT Streaming. in BT streaming there is 2 arrows on the left, one hides what should be cover art and the other opens a sub menu. in that sub menu there is a button for BT devices. when i went to that it brought up a new BT menu and had and add button. when i pressed that it finally prompted me to connect to sync. i still have not found the sync phone button that both the tech and you have stated should be there.

On another note i did notice another problem making calls after i was connected. when i used the voice commands to call my wife sync would start the call and it would be displayed on the kenwood. but instead of hearing ringing through the speakers it was silent. after she picked up she couldn't hear me and i couldn't hear her until i pressed the button on the screen to send it back to the phone and then switch back to the speakers. after the switch i could hear her. Any idea why it would be not passing audio as soon as i start the call?

What kind of phone do you have paired to the Sync system? Also, can you confirm in your phone that the pairing you have is definitely paired to Sync, and not the Kenwood?

Then I was testing this I had the Bluetooth turned off on the Kenwood as wireless Android auto and the sync function do not seem to get along. The phone indicated it was only connected to sync

I have the Google pixel 2

A few questions from the engineer:
Did you use Sync with your factory radio?

Also, have you tried pairing to Sync with a different phone to see if it acts differently?
