2018 F-150, Pioneer AVH-1330NEX, 4.3 Sync Stock....

Post by MongoNash » Wed Apr 11, 2018 1:41 pm

I'm not getting a picture from my rear camera (it does switch to it when in reverse) and the steering wheel buttons aren't functioning........I can see the gauges so I know Maestro is sending data over......

I've triple checked the connections and just re-flashed the module, which I will reinstall this afternoon, but is there anything else I should be looking for????

Did the camera originally show on the 4.3" screen? Where did you plug the yellow RCA labeled 'camera' into? It should go into the brown RCA on the pioneer.

Yes it did display on the factory system and it's plugged into the 'brown' RCA on the back.......

BTW I'll probably try swapping back in the original radio just to make sure it's still working this evening.....

The maestro doesn't power the camera- all it does is triggers the screen to change when you go into reverse, so it sounds like the RR is working as it should. If you still have no image, make sure your harness doesn't have any bent pins, and that the fuse that powers the camera isn't blown.

I was thinking about checking the fuses, but I have no clue which one it is.....it's not defined on the fuse block so I'll have to do some digging.....swapping back in the factory radio should also let me know if it's working......

One thing I did notice....Your wiring diagram shows a wire going to ground from your connector that goes to the original sync module.....that wire isn't on the connector I received....

That could be your issue. It's the shield for the camera. If the black wire in pin 33 is not grounded, the camera might not show an image.

Not a bad fuse....just popped the factory radio back in and camera works fine......

I can't figure out how to post a picture of the connector in question (I think it's a 54 pin connector), but it's got a red and yellow twisted pair of wires to a molex connector (connecting to the ODB II system I think) and a cable with a shielded cable that goes to an RCA connector (labeled "Back Up Camera") no other wires coming off this connector, no bent pins.....

So do I have the right cable or is it missing a ground wire?

As I said in the PM you sent, and just in case anyone else is running into this and needs help, here's the answer:

The early versions of that connector don't have a ground wire. That's why I gave the OEM wire color and pin position, so you can manually ground it to make it work. If your harness is missing the ground wire, you must ground the black wire, pin 33, on the OEM Sync connector.
