2011 Ford Mustang GT w/ Shaker 1000 & Sync

Post by marquise23 » Wed Apr 04, 2018 10:41 pm

Hello all,

I was looking at the install instructions (for the Shaker 500 & 1000) using the MUS1 Kit and on Step 5 (Sync only) it says to cut the SWI 2 INPUT wire and connect the PINK/RED wire of MUS1 T-harness to the SWI 2 INPUT wire going to the steering wheel. Then insulate the wire side going to the SYNC module and plug the SYNC harness into the SYNC module.

Does this mean I have to cut that SWI 2 wire in half and connect the PINK/RED wire MUS1 T-Harness to the steering wheel side and leave the other side not connected to anything OR do I just splice that SWI 2 wire and solder that PINK/RED wire of the MUS1 T-Harness onto it? I'm kind of confused here.

Also, how is the Shaker 1000 connected to the Maestro RR? I see some tech notes that says: "If installing with the MUS1 dash kit, and you have two RCAs labeled SUB, plug them both into the radio. If you only have one RCA labeled SUB, the second needs to be populated following instructions in the link here." But when I click more info, nothing shows up or is a dead link. Anyone connect to a Shaker 1000?

Keep in mind, I do not have the parts yet, but I will be getting it this weekend. Just wanted to make sure I'm connecting this correctly the first time. Thanks guys!

Leave the wire cut. The sync module side should stay disconnected when you cut it. Do NOT make the wire back into one piece after you cut it. The steering wheel controls will not work right if you do this.

You will likely end up getting a newer harness and not need that old documentation. If you need anything when you get the parts, don't hesitate to reach out.

Hello Dara/All,

So, everything seems to work fine. The only issue I'm having is with the SYNC wire. I had cut one of the two Orange/Blue wires (smaller gauge one of course) and soldered it to the Pink/Red wire. It seems to be doing something weird. SYNC keeps on saying, "Line In" when pushing the "SYNC" button on the steering wheel. I'm thinking I might have cut the incorrect wire. There are 2 small blue ones with NO stripes I have seen.

Thanks!

It will be primarily dark blue, with an orange stripe. Make sure you left the wire cut. The sync module side should stay disconnected.

When you push the voice or phone buttons on the steering wheel, does the light on the maestro blink? If so, you're likely on the right wire.

Hi Dara,

Yes, the Maestro RR light blinks green every time I push the SYNC voice button, so yes, I believe I do have the correct wire. I had cut it and soldered the Maestro wire to the steering wheel side. The wire going to the SYNC unit is covered with shrink tubing.

I had tested it today and it will work when I hold the SYNC voice button, then release. It works OK when I ask it to do something. As for doing a one quick push of the SYNC voice button, it always repeats, "Line in, Line in."

I have the Kenwood DDX9904s and was trying to look for the Bluetooth Mic setup/function. I have to look at the owner's manual and see if it has the feature so I can switch from the Bluetooth Mic to the SYNC Mic and so forth.

Thanks for the assistance Dara! Much appreciated!

Hi Dara,

So, I can't seem to find the options to change from the OEM SYNC mic to the Kenwood Bluetooth Mic.

I've been looking through the Kenwood manual and it doesnt say anything. I have also been looking through the setting on the radio itself and can't find anything. I must be blind or something...😂

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Go to Setup > AV > OEM Setup > Handsfree calling

You will have two options: Use radio or Use Sync.

Dara,

You're awesome! One more question. How do I delete my phone, phone book, etc. on SYNC?

Thanks! :)

You shouldn't need to do that if you just forget them in your phone.
