Ford F250 Super Duty Rear Camera w/ Kenwood

Post by joncollins » Sun Mar 11, 2018 5:13 pm

I have a 2012 Ford F250 Super Duty with factory radio/nav/backup cam/xm. The camera appears on the radio screen not the mirror.

I am planning on getting the following to connect a Kenwood DNX994s:

1. ADS-MRR Maestro RR - Universal Radio Replacement & SWI
2. IDatalink Maestro ADS-HRN-RR-FO1
3. IDatalink Maestro ADS-HRN-ANT-SAT1
4. SiriusXM SXV300V1
5. Metra 40-CR10 Antenna Adapter
6. Metra 95-5812 Dash Kit

Anything else that I need?
Does the Maestro RR handle the factory backup camera - video and power?

The factory radio has 4 connectors on the back (not including antennas) while the FO1 only connects to 3.
Is the unused one the camera or other functions?

Thanks, Jonathan

looks good. however the FO1 will not do camera retention. You are going to need to hardwire the camera. Camera signal should be located in the 10 pin harness behind the radio white/green (+), brown/violet (-)

Thanks for the camera info. Now that I am installing the radio (which I switched to a DNX893s) I have these questions:

1. The install guide:
ADS-RR(SR)-FOR01-DS2TH-IG-EN_20151214 Pages for FORD F-SERIES SUPER DUTY 2011-2016
shows an audio cable with 3.5" connectors on both ends which is an error as that cable is not included nor is there a 3.5" jack on the Maestro. There are 2 - 3.5" cables, one with a blue connector and a blue/green wire and one with a black connector. Which is the correct one? Also, I wanted to confirm that it goes into the 3.5" receptacle on the Kenwood which is next to the idatalink data cable (the data receptacle and jack receptacle are both labelled "idatalink I/F".

2. The Kenwood DNX893s has a red and white RCA female labelled S/W. Do BOTH Maestro sub-woofer RCA jacks plug in here? On FO1 harness one is labelled sub1 and the other sub2/center.

3. The Sync bluetooth is still active - I had to "forget" Sync on the iPhone to get it to stop connecting. There is not an option to enable/disable Sync bluetooth as per the instructions. How do I disable the sync bluetooth.

4.I am not able to pair my iPhone 7 with the radio. I see it as available (DNX893s) on the iPhone but it fails to pair when selected (never asks for pairing password).

I have updated the Kenwood firmware as per the idatalink warning and flashed the Maestro with RR-FOR01-DS3.

Thanks for your help with this!

1. The all black cable is the one you should connect. The blue plug is not used.

2. Subs are technically mono, so you can plug it into either the left or right.

3. You can either uncheck Sync when you flash, or you can go into the OEM Setup of the radio, under "handsfree calling" and turn Sync bluetooth off.

4. If your OEM bluetooth is still on, you won't be able to pair to the kenwood for handsfree calling.

I'm glad I was able to find this post, since I had the same install question.

What is the blue connector used for then?

My next chore is to trace out the rear view mirror cable and tap I to it. (should be fun)

Maybe it's time to update the instruction pdf. Update the picture as well since the cables shown are not included in that configuration.

the blue connector is the steering wheel control connector for radios that are not Maestro compatible or when the data cable is not used.
