How to flash firmware after installation SI-HYU01-DS

Post by terster » Thu Jul 27, 2017 9:39 pm

Hi. I have a Kenwood DDX9703S just installed at Best Buy along with the Maestro RR SI-HYU01-DS unit. I see on your site that there is a firmware dated as of April. I'm an end user, not an installer. I'm wondering how i would go about flashing the firmware to the newest version? The one thing that doesn't seem to be working right is when the Kenwood is in Satellite mode... there are 20 presets on the kenwood unit. They are all programmed with channels. However, on my steering wheel control, when i do a channel up or down, it will only move 5 channels and then it starts over.

For example, on the radio, presets 1-5 are SM1-1, SM1-2, SM1-3, SM1-4, SM1-5 and then it goes to SM2-1, SM2-2, SM2-3, etc.

When i do channel up... i go SM1-1 to SM1-5 and then it starts over again at SM1-1. It never goes to the next block of presets.

I have no issues with radio presets, just the SeriusXM presets. Best Buy also installed the Serius XM SV30001 module (i think that's the model).

So... i was thinking maybe the firmware needed upgrading.

And if not now.. at some point in the future it will need upgrading i would think so i guess the same question applies.

Thanks for allowing the question.

Your module is working correctly. The presets are broken down in bands. You have 4 bands of 5 presets. SM1, SM2, SM3, SM4. Just like FM1, FM2 and FM3 on your radio tuner. You can only move within each band.

The only reason to update the module is if something isn't working. The Rr would need to be removed from the car and flashed on a PC. You do not need to update the Rr. It's working correctly. If you ever did need an update (this is rare) then take it back to Best Buy so you do not void your lifetime warranty.

Thanks for the fast reply.

One other question... is there a way to use hands free to move to the next band? When i press the "Mode" button the the steering wheel, it does move from FM1 to FM2 etc... however, when I get to Satellite and then do "mode" again, it then move to bluetooth or something. IT doesn't move to the different band but instead moves to the next device. Is that something i can change? Thanks again!

The steering wheel controls are completely configurable. You can move any command to any button- the RR just needs to be reflashed.

Thanks for the update. It's been about a year. I went back to Best Buy 5 months ago to have them re-map some buttons but they fixed some and messed up others.

Can you help point me to where, in these forums, i can find instructions for how to program the module myself? I found the unit in my dash this pas weekend. It's very accessible. I know though, i have to pull it out completely, bring into the house, connect to my PC (Via a micro-usb cable???) and then flash it.

But that means i need the install file for flashing my unit and instructions.

IS it possible to give me the link to where i can find that here on the forums? I've done some keyword searching and i'm not finding it. Wire diagrams... but not how to flash/program it.

I think if i go back to BB, i'm going to get charged.

Thanks!

Here is the link you requested. You will need to create an account first then install the Weblink tools. Its a fairly easy process and should only take approximately 15 mins.

Just an FYI- Best Buy should not charge to change a setting as the install original didnt meet your standards which falls short of their moto.

I connected the USB cable that came with the unit (others didn't seem to work) to the unit in place and then ran the cable to a area where it is hidden but accessible (I had to drill a hole and used rubber grommets to protect the usb cable coming through the hole). I also had to use a USB extension cable (taped the two cables together with electrical tape so they stay connected).

I can now program my unit while in place in the car using a laptop.

Works great.
