Reverse wire not working

Post by Needhelp » Mon Apr 29, 2019 8:29 pm

I just picked up an aftermarket backup camera to work with my new kenwood ddx-6905s and the purple/white wire doesn't light up my test light and the camera doesn't work. I verified the camera works when it has power but the wire needed to trigger the radio just isn't doing anything. Any ideas what to check? Is there a programming setting that woiuld prevent it from working? Thanks.

Is the vehicle manual or automatic transmission? In manual transmission cars, the signal for the reverse gear is not on the data lines, so we aren't able to generate it for you.

Did you connect anything to the purple/white before testing? If you tried to power the camera off of this wire, you may have damaged the output.

So the camera can’t run off of the purple/white wire?

The camera wiring had a red wire off the yellow rca jack and on the other end by the camera it had a power and ground wire. I didn’t connect these wires to anything because it looked like it would just run off that reverse wire per the camera instructions.

Are you supposed to connect the camera to another power source like tapping into the reverse lights? What’s up with that red wire by the rca jack then?

Do you think the damage occurred on the car or the rr?

If you hooked anything except the radio's purple/white to the RR's reverse wire, it pulls too much current and will burn the transistor.

We recommend hooking the camera's power up to either a reverse light wire in the car (not our reverse wire), or our heavy gauge red accessory wire behind the radio.
