Subaru CAN BUS

Post by ajiuo » Mon May 19, 2014 4:26 pm

Will this product be compatible with Subaru CAN BUS.. In order to see tire pressure, open doors, mpg, trip odometer, and set up car features? The car is able to safe this information with the car display unit.. I don't see why it couldn't be made to work with this. it is just two data wires.

I am on a 2008 Outback XT. It would be the same interface for the Legacy and probably other cars..

Thanks

Subaru uses a system called CAN BUS witch communicates vehicle information. When the vehicle is equipped with a navigation unit (witch is made by kenwood for Subaru) The navigation unit also taps in to the CAN bus line to be able to access vehicle information, gauges, and the ability to set up certain vehicl functions.

if the vehicle is equipped with a navigation system the CAN BUS can be accessed from behind the Kenwood Navigation unit.. If not the CAN BUS can be acsessed from behind the gauge cluster.

I don't know if you guys get your info from the car manufactures or if you reverse engineer them.

Here are the pinouts for the ken wood display

You still have no answered my original question, which headunit are you planning on putting in???

Your next post should have that information in it.

I am well aware of what the CAN NETWORK IS AND WHAT IT DOES, but thank you anyway.

Well I was going to get a nex4,5,6000.. But since pioneer does not allow anything other then steering wheel controls I will probably have to wait for kenwood or alpine to release a carplay compatible deck.

Are there some that are easer to make this kind of thing work with?

Alpine would be your best choice for the features you seek.

So will alpine support Subaru CAN BUS?

Why does Pioneer even support the maestro if they don't allow anything other then steering controls?? Does pioneer support Odb engine codes?

On this vehicle they only do SW controls. This summer when their update comes out they will have more support for Ford SYNC and U Connect but they will not offer any CAN bus support of gauges and trouble codes. Only Alpine and Kenwood will support than as mentioned earlier.

YES ALPINE WILL

Pioneer made that decision, that would be a great question for them.

Ok.. So I ended up trading in my 08 outback for a 13 forester. Outside of OBD-II gauges and codes.. Is there anything that the RR can do with my car such as tire pressure monitoring?

I was thinking of holding off for Alpine to come out with carplay... But iv contacted them.. It sounds like carplay will not be an update like it is with pioneer. They have no ETA on when carplay models will be available and don't know if the car play units will even support the maestro RR.

If the rr can do something other then odb-II I might still hold off... If not I'm just going to get the pioneer and use dash command on app radio... They are also looking in to carplay :-)

If I go with the pioneer is there any reason at all to get the RR or should I just get the SW?

Do the RR and SW both support the 3 bluetooth buttons in addition to the audio controls?

if you get the Pioneer, like I have said already there will be no gauges whatsoever, then just use a SW module.

I have a 13 forester xt with a SW in it...... an it is really an easy install.

A bit late to the party but I have a related question:

Subaru Forester 2013
Kenwood DDX9902s
Maestro RR

I realize the above combination integrates nicely with steering wheel controls and can display gauges. I also know that (say a late model Mustang) with the above will do more (more vehicle information and climate). What is this a function of if both cars CAN BUS/OBD provide the same information? Is it that there isn't a T harness made (yet ;-) for the Subaru to pull the additional information? Is it that software hasn't been developed for the Subaru whereas with the Mustang there has been? Something else I'm missing? Thanks in advance for the enlightenment!

At this time, there isn't a t-harness, so there isn't a more advanced firmware to do those things. It's on our radar to look into covering subaru with a t-harness in the future, but we don't have anything in the works at this time.

We don't have a list of what gauges each vehicle gets, because it can differ from vehicle to vehicle, even based on something as simple as different trim levels. As far as the gauges we can support, there are:

Acceleration
Accelerator Pedal Position
Air Fuel Ratio
Average Fuel Economy
Battery Voltage
Boost/Vacuum
Dist. to Empty
Engine coolant Temp
Engine Load
Engine Oil Temp
Exhaust Gas Temp
Fuel Level
Fuel pressure
Instantaneous Fuel Economy
Intake air Temp
Intake Manifold Air Pressure
Mass Air Flow
RPM
Throttle Plate Position
Timing advance
Torque
Transmission Fluid Temp
Vehicle Speed

TPMS for Subaru is not supported at this time.
I hope this helps,
