2014 avalon NAV with JBL - firmware update - 2 red lights flashing

Post by aghozzo »

car :Toyota Avalon 2014 limited Hybrid
Stereo: Pioneer AVH-W4400NEX

Car worked fine for 2 years with Maestro RR + Pioneer unit . All the sudden backup camera stopped working ( camera is good - I tested it with the OEM stereo) , all connections seem to be good .

>> So I assumed the Maestro has issues, so I took it to update the firmware .

I had :
v2.4 / Avalon 2014 Navigation with JBL

Flashed with :
SERIAL NUMBER
FC55D100D2
FIRMWARE
Avalon 2014 Navigation with JBL
ADS-RR(SR)-TOY02-DS (512)
v2.9
HARDWARE
RR (512)

MAestro flashes 2 red lights now .

I tried :
- resetting the maestro ( till the light become green)
- I tried reflashing it many times ( 7 to be exact)
- I tried to flash ot with its previous firmware ( it was saved in favourites ) - still 2 flashing red lights

PLEASE HELP :(

Ensure the 4-pin data cable is connected between the radio and the RR, and that it is plugged into the black port on the Maestro RR. The red and blue ports on the RR should be empty. Make sure the correct radio model and serial number were entered during the flash. Verify the radio’s serial number entered during the flash matches what is listed on the radio screen. This can be found in the settings of the radio, listed as Device Id/Device Number.

thanks for the reply,

the data cable is attached on one side , 3 other cables attached on the other side.

the S/N picked from the device and it shows the same one when I flash.

the device been working for a year or so , i just took it out to update the flash and now it flashes 2 red lights

Which "one side" is the data cable on? Having 3 cables on the other side doesn't sound like it's in the correct place. The red and blue ports should be empty.

the red boxes are the used ports.

As I mentioned the setup been working for about 2 yrs . I just took the maestro to upgrade it and put it back . wiring stayed the same

You're missing the data cable. See attached. It goes to where the arrow is pointing.

you are absolutely right . that fixed the maestro flashing red lights.

the problem is the blue plug and black one are the same . so the plug goes in either one if you don't pay attention .

I have another issue i will do it in a separate thread

thank you so much

backup camera show black screen all the sudden after 2 years ! please help !

Post by aghozzo »

car :Toyota Avalon 2014 limited Hybrid
Stereo: Pioneer AVH-W4400NEX

all the sudden the backup camera show black screen after 2 years of the setup. (everything else works fine)

I put my original OEM Toyota stereo and the camera worked, so the camera is good . checked all wiring , everything seems to be same as I set it up 2 years ago.

Question 1 :
is the Maestro RR is the reason? Did anyone got this issue before / how did you solve it if you did ?

Question 2:
is there a detailed diagram for how to connect the TO2 harness to Maestro RR so i go back and check everything ?

Question 3:
How do I start debugging this ?
- i restored pioneer to factory settings
- i re-flashed Maestro with latest firmware.
- i checked the wiring ( same original plugs got connected to original stereo and the camera worked)

Please help , any tips can get me starting . Thank you in advance :(

I believe the issue was caused by re-flashing. The harness and firmware have been changed so that the camera power comes off of a different, stronger output. As a test, you can try connecting the yellow/black from the TO1 t-harness to the camera's power wire (the black wire in the car, where you currently have the blue/yellow connected). If you change that wire and it works, leave it, and you're good to go.

Thanks for the reply :

1- i reflashed because the camera stopped working, not the other way around . So the camera stopped working and I decided to reflash so that may fix it

2-I have the TO2 harness not the TO1 . How what you said is different in this case ?

Nothing should have changed on the TO2. At that point, you would need to meter the blue/yellow to see what the voltage on that wire is.

Can you tell me what the voltage on that wire should be ? I get ground on that wire

What the voltage on these wires should be , which is power and which is ground ( black , grey , red white )
