2008 Silverado Advice

Post by siraltitude »

Hello!

Currently have 08 Silverado non Bose with aftermarket Kenwood DNX890HD, aftermarket 4 channel amp and aftermarket components in front doors and 2 way 6.5" in back door. System was installed back in 2013 with pac swi-jack and os-4 looking to replace with Maestro RR or RR2 and the GM5 to get the full benefits of my Kenwood. Plan on doing this myself once I decide on the RR or RR2.

So, that being said any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Would I be gaining anything by going with the RR2? Or just stick with the RR?

Hi,

Both RR and RR2 are great components for this application. Is there anything specific you're looking to accomplish? Escort or K40 radar integration, custom accessories controlled from your steering wheel buttons, etc?

RR and RR2 will have the same basic functionality. RR2 adds a few things:

BT flashing (future) - not currently supported but is in testing. Will allow you to flash/adjust things without removing from the dash in the future.
Escort radar - with compatible radios you can integrate compatible radar detectors with RR2
Programmable outputs - control an accessory with SWC button press OR have a function we detect on computer network trigger an output to happen. Can be timed, latched, delayed on, etc. Low current, will need relays to operate anything over 350(?)mA of current. Think stuff like light bars, garage door openers, basically your mind is the limit.

Ok, right now my speaker wires are coming off my amp running back to the factory speaker wires off the back of the deck, will this hook up be the same after installing the maestro rr? Also, atm I have a cheap 4" speaker underneath my dash for onstar to work through, will this also be the same? Or will onstar work through my aftermarket amp and speakers?
Basically, will my aftermarket speakers and amp be connected to the maestro rr at all?

The way your speakers and amp are hooked up will stay the same. There is a speaker that comes with our kit that you will use for chimes instead.

Like I said when we talked on the phone, it will come through the external speaker supplied with the GM5+ harness.

Thank you for your help!

I've made up my mind to try and do it myself, getting ready to order Maestro RR2 and GM5+ kit. It all seems pretty straight forward and as long as I follow instructions, seems pretty simple.
Only thing that worries me is the person that installed my system 7 years a go using Pac modules done a crappy job, He has bypassed a lot of stuff, never worked right from the start, so getting rid of his mess and starting from scratch is what I plan to do. And rewiring aftermarket amp and door speakers while I'm at it. I think I'll run speakers wires from amp to the doors instead of going back to factory wires behind the deck.

Wish me luck!

I'll be on here a lot reading and asking if I run into issues!

Ok, another question. Right now with the Pac modules I'm using an aftermarket SiriusXM tuner with it connected to my Kenwood and OE SiriusXM antenna. Once I get the Maestro will I still be using my aftermarket SiriusXM tuner or go back to my OE SiriusXM tuner that came on my Silverado?

You will be able to go back to using the OEM tuner (if that's what you want to do). If not, you can keep using the new tuner. Either way works.

Ok, ended up getting new deck, went with DNX997XR and the RR2 and GM5+ kit...got everything installed today and everything seems to be working! Yay me! I did end up wiring up me aftermarket amp speaker wires through the GM5+ wiring harnsess to keep from running new speaker wires, that being said Onstar is coming through my door speakers, is this going to be ok with them being amplified? I have thought about running the speaker wires from the amp to the door speakers and bypassing the harness behind the deck, if I do that how will I hear Onstar? there is no Onstar sound coming from the speaker that came with the GM5+ kit.

Make sure the 'Factory Amplifier' option in your flash is unchecked. Also, ensure the audio cable between the Maestro and the radio is plugged into the 'iDatalink i/f' port. Unless the previous installer did something weird in the wiring, the OnStar should play through the small external speaker.
