Volume and Track selection issues

Post by flyguyclyde »

I have an Alpine ILX-2017 and a 2015 WRX / base model. I've managed to get the Mode, Source, Answer call and end call buttons on my steering wheel to work, but not the Vol up/down or Track up/down.

I've flashed multiple and the crutchfield techs thinks it's a bad unit.
any idea of what cables could be causing this issue?

I have plenty photos for reference if needed

when you press the volume up or down button does the SW blink at all?
If it doesn't check the Purple/Red wire coming from the SW and make sure it's attached to a Brown w/Black stripe wire (pin #4) at the factory wiring harness, and make sure there is a good connection. this wire is the one that sends the Vol up/down and Seek up/down information from the steering wheel.

Thank you for the reply.

-No, it does not..

Please reference the attached picture for my wire setup
"Purple/Red wire coming from the SW and make sure it's attached to a Brown w/Black stripe wire (pin #4) at the factory wiring harness"

- I'm plugged into the all Brown cable (#4)

Please correct if I'm wrong...I might be going color blind...

I will check the connections and follow up with you tomorrow

Can you post a picture of the connection? That will help us ensure you're on the right wire.

Quick update
I was sent an additional Masetro SW to test so the crutchfield crew can rule out that the device was causing issues..

I flashed it using IE and swapped it out

Still no luck...

I fear the splice was not good enough, although the other 4 wheel buttons work just fine

Any suggestions before I bring it in to a professional? and even if I brought it to a Professional shop/installer, will they be able to help if the 20 pin harness head of the Factory connector can be replaced by them or will I need to bring to a Subaru dealership?

It's hard to make out from your pictures, but it doesn't look like you are on the correct wire. The 3 connections into the car harness should make an "L" shape with all 3 connected, in that two are right next to one another in the same row and one is right above one of those, but in the other row. If you could spread the wires out a little better we might be able to help you figure it out.

The 2 in the middle towards the middle of the connector are blue/yellow strip(pin 13,14) and the far right (pin 4) is brown

The instructions mentioned this configuration with a solid Brown or brown/black needs to be connected to the purple/red cable coming from the Maestro unit.

Does this mean my Brown is not Pin #4 ?

Yes, but I'm not sure what you're trying to show with a close up picture of the bundle of wires. We really need to see the back side of the connector where the wires go in to determine if you're on the correct wires.
