Kenwood DPX-794BH in 2011 Impreza

Post by Charged »

I just picked up a newly released Kenwood DPX-794BH headunit to be installed in my wife's 2011 Impreza sedan (not a WRX, non-nav, no bluetooth).

The DPX-794BH isn't on the list of Kenwood headunits, but the DPX-793BH is. Is it safe to assume I can flash the unit with the software that's recommended for the DPX-793BH and have the steering wheel controls work? If you don't know, is there any harm in trying?

The protocol should be the same, so flashing it as last year's model should work just fine.

Just to follow up, the install went exactly together very easily. I followed the DPX793BH install guide for wire connections and used the recommended settings in the firmware for the steering wheel button choices. The only thing I noticed was that the "end call" button on the steering wheel attenuates the volume on the radio. I thought it was set in the Maestro SW firmware to hang up calls, but it doesn't seem to work that way. Maybe it requires a long press? I guess I should have written down the settings because I found you can't go back in the Weblink Desktop software to check what I chose without ripping the car apart again and connecting the Maestro SW, and I won't be doing that.

Overall very happy with the product.

The steering wheel you are flashed for does not have an end call button. You chose the base wheel with no BT buttons. If you flash for the correct wheel, I suspect it should start working for you. Choose the 2011 Impreza w/o Factory Navigation Bluetooth, and it should show the correct wheel.
