2011 RAV4 w/out JBL, Pioneer AVH-1550NEX Steering Controls

Post by pigndig » Fri Nov 01, 2019 12:21 pm

Hi,
Equipment:
Pioneer AVH-1550NEX
Maestro RR
Maestro TO1

Removed:
Denso DW468100 OEM w/navigation
Toyota Blu Logic hands-free Bluetooth phone system

I followed the wiring diagram and everything seems to be working, sound, most of the gauges, and phone connection, but the steering controls dont work. I believe I followed the very simple flashing process but Im hoping there is something simple that I missed. Thank you for anyone who can offer assistance.

When you press a button on the steering wheel, does the light on the RR blink like it sees you pressing a button?

Make sure there is nothing plugged into the W/R jack on the back of the Pioneer. The steering wheel controls won't work if there is anything plugged in there.

Hi Dara,
Thank you for your prompt response. There is nothing connected to the w/r on the head unit and no blinking lights on the RR when I press the steering wheel controls.

In the box that the TO1 came in, there are 2 short harnesses that are loose in the bottom of the box. They're about 5" long, and have a large white plug on one end, and a small white connector on the other end. Please make sure you're using one of those plugs (one will fit your car, the other will not). The big side plugs to the car, and the small side plugs into the TO1 harness.

It worked!!! :D Thank you.
I would also like to hook up the rear camera. The stock rear camera currently displays in a tiny screen on my rear view mirror and I would prefer to use the Pioneer screen if possible.

To do that, you'd need to take a long RCA cable, splice into the video wires at the display, and run them down to the radio.
