2015 Wrangler--Dimmer Control for Pioneer head unit?

Post by bgshacklett »

Hello,

When I turn on my lights, even just my parking lights, my Pioneer head unit turns to night mode. On a rainy day, this is problematic, as there's usually enough light to make it difficult to see the screen. My vehicle (a 2015 Jeep JK) has a dimmer switch which has a "daylight" position that will cause all other illumination to be at full brightness. Is there any way to tie this to the head unit to keep it in daylight mode?

Thanks,
Brian

Unfortunately, no. Like every other interface company, we simply follow the illumination code from the vehicle and dim the radio when that code is active (when the parking lights or headlights are on). There might be a setting in the radio to manually adjust its dimmer and brightness, but I'm not sure on that specific model.

From a technical perspective, I would imagine this shouldn't be too difficult to manage, as the control signal for the cabin brightness should be available just as easily as the illumination code. Both settings are on the multi-function switch, which should mean that the steering control module is responsible for passing the codes out to the CAN bus.

If, however, this is something that just doesn't warrant implementation due to lack of interest, I'd be surprised, but I can concede that point.

The wrangler is our most popular vehicle; we see about 15,000 flashes per year for it. Surprisingly enough, you are the first to ask about this.

I don't think we have the resources or ability to do it at this time; I don't believe we have the readings of daylight mode to see if there is a difference between the code for illumination, versus the code for daylight mode. Because of that, we don't have a way to implement it.
