2019 subaru legacy sw not working

Post by Derrick » Wed Oct 30, 2019 2:10 am

I have installed my new kenwood head unit (dmx905s) on my 2019 subaru legacy premium sedan. I have flashed the maestro sw to the current software, and none of my steering wheel buttons work at all... I don't know if it's because the steering wheel listed under my steering wheels is blank or something else.

I have tried 2 times re-flashing the unit with no change of controls. Is it possble the unit is defective?

The flash looks fine. Let's take a look at the light on the SW; it will tell us what we need to know.

When you turn the key on, does the light on the SW blink like it has power? If not, let's make sure the power to the SW is connected correctly, our red and black to the radio's red and black wires.

When you press a button on your steering wheel, does the light on the maestro blink like it sees you pushing a button? If it's wired to the car correctly, you should have a different number and color of blinks for each of the radio related steering buttons.

Yes i did wire the red/ black wires to radio. When i had the dash trim removed i did see the led light up red all the time. Nothing happened when i pushed any button except the source button, that button made the led flash red 2 or 3 times (can't remember)

I might try and re-flash unit using a 2018 steering wheel and see what that does when i get a chance.

Forgot to add that my kit i got didn't have the 4-wire black harness cable included. Not sure it your supposed to plug that into back of radio as well. I did try the blue 4-wire cable to the back of radio and also the blue port on the msw module. No lights at all, with no button response either...

The 4-pin black port is not used in this solution.

The module should not be lighting up red all the time. If you're getting a single slow red flash, that means there is no firmware on the module, which would cause it to not work.

Had a chance to mess with it more today. Still NOT working... I tried re-flashing with several different years steering wheels with and without factory amp. Still have the same result with the source button acting as the mute button. I get 1 red flash each time i press it. The green light does come on for 1/2 a second when i first start car or use radio on acc. I even tried using a different usb cable when flashing thinking that was it.

Any other idea's before i buy something different?

I would like to know how many blinks (and what color they are) for each button. This will help us rule out a wiring issue. Worst case, if you could give a call into the tech support line when you have the maestro accessible in the car, we can probably get you going more quickly by talking in real-time.
