Reverse Camera Trigger Wire

Post by Teamfour » Wed Oct 16, 2019 8:40 am

The violet/white wire is currently configured to plug into the factory harness behind the head unit. If using an aftermarket camera, do I cut the violet/white wire and connect it to the red trigger wire bundled with the video cable?

no, the Purple/White is just a trigger for the radio and doesn't have the current capability to run a camera. if you connect it you will damage the RR.

Thanks. I don’t want to power the camera with that wire, just use as a trigger. Without a factory camera, will the truck itself provide a trigger signal from the truck-side harness?

If you are not connecting the Purple/White to the radio then just tape it up, the output isn't strong enough to be used as a trigger for anything else.
Normally we read the vehicle's data network and provide the reverse signal from that, regardless if it has a factory camera or not.

Thanks again. I’ll leave it connected.
