Up and Down (Next, Previous) buttons not working on "Default" 2018 Toyota Tundra non-JBL

Post by eytundra » Tue Oct 15, 2019 2:11 pm

Hi, I flashed my Maestro with the "default" settings for my steering wheel control for my 2018 Toyota Tundra SR5 Sport, non-JBL but the up/down (previous/next) do not work for any of my programs. Whether it be FM radio, Pandora or Amazon music on AA. Heat unit Kenwood DDX-9905s.

Thoughts? I want to re-flash it but it will have to be another time. Also noticed my rear speakers not working.

In the cluster display the source needs to be set to audio for all the buttons to work properly. As for the speaker issue please attach the serial number of the meastro module so i can validate your flash configuration.

Sorry I don't know where the serial is located without digging into the unit and taking it out. If i'm going to dig it back out, I might as well re-flash it. It's too bad, https://maestro.idatalink.com login site does not contain any information on the product I own or my settings.

In the kenwood, go to Setup > AV > OEM Setup > Maestro Features > Maestro module > About Maestro

This pop-up will show you the serial number.

Actually I found that the next/previous buttons only work when I switch my dash display to show audio and only the right steering wheel buttons will work with Using the up/down. This mapping is wrong when I selected all default values since it does not match the controls to OEM radio.

The left up/down should've retain it's values. But it doesn't do anything.

The up/down buttons should technically be the ones to do seek. They are not currently programmed that way, so that explains seek commands only working when the cluster is in audio mode. I recommend re-flashing and moving the seek up and down commands to the up/down arrows, then they should work 100% of the time.

I reprogram it and the default says Up arrow pad is seek+ down arrow pad shows seek-. So the default programming is wrong. There is NO OPTION to seek, or to skip next or previous.

The right menu doesn't even allow programming of the up/down pads.

Is this fault of whoever programmed the maestro for the tundra? Doesn't seem to meet factory functions. Yet the device claims that you can keep factory functions.

So how am I suppose to program it if it doesn't have those options.

Follow the labels in the table for up/down/left/right, not the physical locations circled on the wheel. They will work if you have the buttons labeled up/down set to do seek up/down. Since you have started this thread, we re-mapped the defaults of the up/down buttons for seek up/down.

Kenwood radios do not have the option to do preset; their protocol, as designed by kenwood, is just seek up/down, and then you change the seek mode in the radio settings if you want it to do something different.

If you have further questions, it might be best if you give us a call and we can explain and help get it going.
