No Voice Command and Whinning Noise

Post by Elecflo »

I have a 2012 Ford Fusion in which i just installed a Kenwood DDX9903s with Maestro RR. i have two problems I have no voice command. After i press the button it is silent for a seconds and states "Line In". The other issue is that there is a acceleration whining noise coming from the speakers only when using the BT and Phone from the sync features of the unit. I am thinking i maybe need to use the aux cable with the green yellow wire.

It sounds like the audio cable that goes between the maestro and the radio is either not installed or is plugged into the wrong place. Ensure the all black 3-pin to 3.5mm cable is plugged into the maestro, and that the 3.5mm side is plugged into the radio where it says 'Idatalink I/F'.

As for the whining noise, there was a manufacturing defect in that radio. Kenwood's warranty center will need to service the radio to resolve that.

It's plugged into the correct areas. I can hear when I get a call and use Bluetooth audio. What doesn't work is when I press the voice command there is no lady asking for a command. Just says line in after a few seconds. I've reset maestro and the unit.

I just contact Kenwood about the whining issue. Now I am just waiting for a reply.

All the audio from sync comes through the same audio path. Ensure the black 10 pin plug is well seated into the maestro module (this plug is on the same side as the reset button). This is where all the Sync audio comes in from the vehicle. If that is seated well and you still can't hear her, disconnect the battery of the vehicle for 20 minutes to reset the Sync module, as it sounds like it is partially functioning and a reset may fix it.

Ok seem we got somewhere. Now I can here the sync lady but only when I am listening to a bluetooth device but not when I am listening to the fm radio.

As for the whining noise. I was told by Kenwood that the units are not defective. I need to neutralize the noise on the maestro accessory. I tried something else. I tried using sync while the vehicle is on acc and there is no noise, but when the car is on I can hear it. Do you think it might be a bad ground between the maestro, the kenwood and the vehicle?

Dara thank you for you continued help.

Kenwood's response is incorrect. The excelon radio series ending with 3S has a defect on the maestro audio input of the radio. It has been 3 years since these radios were released, so it doesn't surprise me that whoever you spoke to either does not know, or has forgotten this. There are several threads about this here on the forum.

Ok I spoke to some else and he saw the issue which as he put "escalated" the call. Now will this also fix why I can't hear the sync lady when using am/FM radio?

No, those are two separate issues. When you're listening to FM, and you hit the voice button on the steering wheel, does the radio mute like it's switching inputs?

What firmware version is loaded on the Kenwood right now?

The radio's firmware is up to date, which is a good thing.

Sometimes it does go mute other time it doesn't. Then it goes to say line in. I wish I can post a video so you can see.

You can absolutely take a video and post the link here. We will still end up advising you to reset the Sync module, though. It sounds like the module is glitching.

Well I will assume it is. I have reset it several times and I have notice it now does different things. At one point the module assumed there was a call coming in when there wasn't, it showed idatalink on the ford info display, and now it just wants to switch on its own.

Honestly, when using a radio that is equipped with Android Auto/CarPlay, we recommend re-flashing, disabling the sync system, and using the radio's phone features instead. This would eliminate all of the issues you're having, and also eliminates any potential of the two phone systems conflicting with each other.

Where are these posts highlighting the factory problem with the DDX9903s? I've used the board search feature using model as search term and found nothing. Need this to help with my fight with Kenwood customer service.
