2015 Tiguan backup camera

Post by edwin »

2015 Tiguan with Fender radio. New deck is JVC KW-R840BT with Maestro RR
Install guide says "to retain factory back up camera use third party RGB to composite adapter"

I'm using Axxess AX-VW92-CAM and can't get image from the camera.

Connections +12v, ground and reverse signal input from RR to radio and camera adpter

What i did wrong?

The reverse output from the RR is only designed to trigger a radio to switch over, as it is a low current output. If it had both the radio input and the trigger for the camera adaptor you are using connected it could have damaged the output itself from the RR. Check to see if you are getting 12v when the car is in reverse on our purple/white wire. If so, then you would be best talking to Metra about connecting and using that adaptor since it is theirs.

Just wondering if I use SPDT relay that the RR output would energize the relay. ACC power will be applied to the input and output would energize the radio and adapter. Relay draws 0.09 Amps. Has anyone tried this?

I strongly recommend not doing this. It is a very low current output transistor. If you try to drive a full size SPDT relay off of it, you will likely burn up the RR's reverse output.
