08 Ram RR blinking red light

Post by BlackRam3500 » Sun Aug 25, 2019 1:42 am

My 2008 ram 3500 Laramie, I just installed a JVC KW-M750BT with the CH2 harness. Maestro RR, setup and flashed to my truck (all wiring as shown) radio powered up with sound but no steering wheel function, I removed the head and loom, reflashed the RR(with the loom connected to the head, but out of the truck) and reconnected it only to have no sound or steering wheel control the RR has a red blinking light twice every few seconds. I've double checked the wiring, and the idatalink connection wire, I've reflashed without the factory amp checked but no difference. I'm not sure what to do next.

2 red flashes means the RR is not talking to the radio, which explains your steering wheel controls not working. There are only a couple things that can cause this:

1) The all black, 4-pin data cable is not connected/not plugged into correct location - Since you said you had the data cable plugged in already, go ahead and unplug it and plug it back in just to make sure it seated good. Please ensure it is in the black port on the maestro (the red and blue ports on the module should be empty).

2) Flash was bad/not completed/failed - I checked your flash and everything looks good there.

3) Wrong radio model entered during the flash

4) Serial number is different than what's on the box/radio - We have seen instances where the s/n of the radio is actually different inside the radio than what is listed on the radio or on the box. You can check this by going into the settings of the radio and look for the software/firmware screen. you should see either Device Number or Serial Number. Make sure it matches what you entered during the flash.

Thanks,

1) sorry but I've misled you, the data cable wasn't connected due to the unit not having a data port.....
Does this mean I can't have steering wheel controls or have I missed something??

2) I'll reflash

3) I've checked the serial number with the firmware and it's correct

Cheers

Upon flashing the module i received the message that the flash was completed with success. The fields below with Serial Number, Firmware & Hardware fields are blank....... is this correct??
I will connect to the truck tomorrow to see if anything has changed

If the radio model in your flashing history is correct (KW-M750BT), then you absolutely should have a place for the data cable to plug in. See attached. If nothing is plugged in there, that's the problem.

Thanks for the picture. I've replied with an email my model decal and rear unit. No data port. Whats my next option apart from buying another model/make unit??

The next option is flashing it as the correct radio model. There is no way you have a North American KW-M750BT without a data port (because all North American radios of this model have one). Flash as JVC '2009 and newer with Bluetooth'.
