2012 Honda Civic + Pioneer AVIC-W8400NEX

Post by asd255 » Fri Aug 23, 2019 12:03 pm

Hey. I had some questions about using Maestro RR after installation.

1. The problem with switching tracks. In the Radio source, presets of radio stations switch perfectly, but in BT \ Carplay mode this does not work. - Can you check my button settings by my login? I saved them as favorites while programming Maestro RR.
2. Font compatibility issue for i-MID display. (OEM display Honda)
I listen to songs in my native language and I was faced with the problem of displaying Cyrillic characters.
They appear as "?". I checked this for German and Russian. Non-English characters are displayed with a "?"

3. Different sources on iMID and Pioneer
3.1 For radio: RDS data is not transmitted, sometimes, after an incoming call, the source on the iMID changes to the USB source (Radio continues to be active on the Pioneer) and then the RDS information is displayed. But the frequency of the radio station is not displayed. (See attachment)
3.2 If a BT source is selected on the Pioneer, AUX is displayed. no information available on artists (
3.3 Sometimes the Carplay source appears as an iPOD, but more often as a USB source
4. Adding features: - Climate control control for Honda CIvic 2012+

thank

I partially solved my problem with switching tracks. but now there is another problem, this is an old problem for me.

I have had experience with the AVIC-6000NEX for the past 4 years. after I bought 8400. I did not change the wiring as well as the old CAN adapter. a year later, I bought the Maestro RR.

On 6000NEX, pressing the "<>" (Seek up / down) buttons switched between tracks. But for the radio, it was a search for stations. It was very inconvenient, since I wanted station presets to switch.
When I installed the W8400NEX, I do not change the CAN adapter, I noticed that station presets began to switch for radio. And with a long press, searching for stations - These are the functions of the new Pioneer W8400 / 8500 firmware, the old adapter did not know how to program the 2nd action on the button. It was a great solution for Pioneer.

After installing Maestro RR, I set the "<>" (Seek up / down) buttons to Present + - and while holding Seek + -
therefore, switching tracks did not work, but for radio everything worked.

Now I am using the default values for the "<>" (Seek up / down) buttons and switching tracks works, but for the radio, this is a station search. To switch between stations, you need to hold down the button. This is not awkward. I know that you can do this with a single click.

I know why this is happening. For 6000NEX, I was able to solve the problem of switching between stations.
I can share information if you can upgrade the firmware for Maestro RR so that I can switch tracks and presets of stations for radio.

As for the for the Cyrillic characters, there is not much we can do; I don't think the iMid accepts them.

On the topic of the source switching at the end of call- Does it happen at the end of every phone call?

We suspect that the pioneer is sometimes sending us Carplay, and sometimes sending USB for the source when it's on Carplay. If the radio is sending that source information, we cannot change it. We do not process the information; we just allow it to be sent and show on the iMid.

The coding and steering wheel protocols are different between the 6000NEX and the 8400NEX. Pioneer did change how the seek is coded and how it functions between the two models.

when using OEM radio, iMid displayed cyrillic characters for mp3 without problems, if ID3 ver 1. is used. see is a photo.
I do not expect this to be possible. But I asked a question with hope. since there were problems with German characters too.
I think the encoding problem. AVIC uses unicode encoding, as it is standard for android. and I think that OS iMID does not understand unicode encoding
is it possible to change the encoding Maestro sends to iMID?
On the topic of the source switching at the end of call- Does it happen at the end of every phone call?
I noticed that when the radio is playing and I turn on the camera on the phone and turn it off . The radio source changes to USB.
while Carplay is always connected.
I need more time for tests to accurately find all the bugs when displaying sources.
We suspect that the pioneer is sometimes sending us Carplay, and sometimes sending USB for the source when it's on Carplay. If the radio is sending that source information, we cannot change it. We do not process the information; we just allow it to be sent and show on the iMid.
this is not critical, I'm very glad that iMID now at least displays something)
Thank you very much for Maestro!
The coding and steering wheel protocols are different between the 6000NEX and the 8400NEX. Pioneer did change how the seek is coded and how it functions between the two models.
There is one solution. I have been using it for a long time for the x000 / 100/200 series, it really works. It also works on the Wx400 / 500 series. but in order not to make changes to the Pioneer firmware, just change the code of the buttons that Maestro RR sends. That would solve the problem.

The buttons are divided into several groups: hard key, remote key, idatalink, etc.

Code: Select all

hard key 0x0001 - 0x003E
idata Key 0x0281 - 0x02F0
for hard key track reverse \ forward, switching occurs correctly, both for Radio and for other sources.
It is enough to change the sent button codes to:

Code: Select all

#REVERSE (LEFT)
key 0x08 EXTEND_REVERSE
#FROWARD (RIGHT)
key 0x09 EXTEND_FORWARD
it would solve just my problem. I am not the only one who has encountered this problem. And I had to solve it a few years ago.
On the video you can see the result that I would like to come.

The steering wheel controls are sent through the iDatalink protocol in this radio. The protocol cannot be easily changed because it is following the commands that Pioneer designed when they came out with this radio model.

We are going to look into the cyrillic characters in the iMid once more to see if there is anything that can be done.

You have a connection with Pioneer.
You can ask them a question so that they change the algorithm of the buttons.
because now it is very not convenient.

Regarding the Cyrillic alphabet, I think that this is still in the encoding itself.

Today I ran into another bug.
I decided to photograph the settings of the Gadget. and this is what I got on the screen after I closed the camera

Maestro products only have North American coverage due to not being able to get vehicles that are built for different markets to do the proper R&D on them. At this time unfortunately we are going to be unable to proceed any further due to you being outside of our coverage area. Sorry for the troubles and any inconveniences you have experienced.
