Keep or ditch Uconnect

Post by Stroh » Sun Aug 11, 2019 7:46 pm

I have a 2012 Jeep Wrangler (JK) with the stock RES 130S Infinity system. I'm looking at possibly installing a Kenwood DMX9706S with the SXV300V1 SiriusXM tuner. I'll be using the Maestro RR/CH1 interface to retain steering wheel controls.

When I program the Maestro I can disable the Uconnect or keep it. What do I gain by keeping it? What do I lose if I disable it? (basically what features does the stock Uconnect system provide me?)

I highly recommend doing away with uConnect. If you plan on using Carplay or Android Auto, you must run Kenwood's supplied microphone anyway. Whether you use CarPlay, Android Auto, or just Kenwood's built in bluetooth, you gain so much more user friendliness and features than you had originally with uConnect.

Disabling uConnect will cause loss of the OEM USB; that is the only downside. However, the new radio has its own USB ports so you're not truly 'losing' features.

Thanks. I guess I don't need it then. If I leave the Uconnect center console USB connected to the Uconnect module will it pass through to the Kenwood unit? I can bypass the Uconnect module with an adapter but not sure how reliable it will be from the stuff I have read online.

No. You must unplug it from the uConnect module, and connect to the kenwood using an adapter.

That's what I thought based some Youtube videos I've been watching.
