2013 GMC Sierra 2500 Kenwood DDX6705S Microphone not working

Post by csstile » Sat Aug 10, 2019 11:44 pm

I installed a Kenwood DDX6705S using iDatalink Maestro ADS-MRR and iDatalink HRN-RR-GM5+. The microphone is not working for phone calls. I can hear person receiving call through speakers but then cannot hear me when I talk. If I plug in the Kenwood supplied microphone it works. I thought the iDatalink solution would use the truck factory microphone. Any ideas no how to solve this?

The factory microphone is only used with Onstar and does not work with aftermarket radios. You will have to install the mic that Kenwood supplied.

What microphone does the Bluetooth phone option use? Onstar? If not, why can't Maestro use the Bluetooth microphone option?

2013 GMC Sierra 2500 / Kenwood DDX6705 - Some expected factory features not working, should they?

Post by csstile » Mon Aug 12, 2019 9:36 pm

I recently installed a Kenwood DDX6705S with GM5 RR. After the installation there are a few factory features that are not working. I would like to know if they are supported and if so I get them to work or if they are not supported and are there plans to support them.

Steering Wheel Control > Mute / Phone Button

Factory Mode Function (No GM5 RR)
1) Mute Radio - When in factory mode with out GM5 RR this button has two functions. 1) Mute radio by single push
2) Enable Bluetooth phone option to make or receive call by holding down.

GM5 RR Function

1) Mute Radio - Button does not mute radio
2) Bluetooth PHone - Button does not activate bluetooty phone
3) Button activates Siri on iPhone n.

A/C Fan Automatic Reduce to Low Speed -

The aftermarket radio looks on its own microphone input for voice when you're paired to its bluetooth, using CarPlay, or Android Auto. It is not possible to re-route your voice from the OEM bluetooth microphone into the mic port of the aftermarket radio.

with the way you have the RR configured the Voice button on the steering wheel is set up to be your Siri or Google prompt for your phone. If you want to reconfigure this just take the RR out and reconnect it to the computer like you did when you first were installing it. you can go down to the steering wheel section and change what the buttons do.

as for the fan reducing speed, that may have been a function of the radio itself that aftermarket radios cannot do.
