2008 Tundra JBL No Navi already have Pioneer Avic 8200NEX installed with PAC steering control

Post by sammishima » Thu Jul 11, 2019 2:29 pm

I have 2008 Toyota Tundra with JBL/no Navi. I already have Pioneer AVIC 8200NEX installed with PAC steering control. Everything is working fine. I just want to add Maestro OBDII data capability. What is the minimal connection I need to make with the radio using the T01 harness? If possible I want to keep the PAC steering system.
Thank you.

here is what I would do:
1) don't use the TO1 harness at all, leave the harnessing you already have in tact.
2) take the Maestro unit and flash it for a 2009 Nissan Frontier
3) Using the wires that comes with the Maestro RR interface, follow the connections in the install sheet for the 09 Frontier in regards to the OBD2 and the power/ground. disregard the connections for the steering wheel wires.
4) plug the data cable that comes with the Maestro RR into the RR and into the back of the radio (only one place it will fit)

You should be able to get gauges that way and not mess with the PAC interface.

Hi, in this setup, do I need to connect the Grey/Yellow(accessory) wire and the Grey/Red (VSS) wire from the Maestro RR to the radio? If yes, which color wire is the "accessory" on the Pioneer AVIC8200NEX radio?

you will need to connect the Gray/Red which is the Accessory input. this wire needs to be tapped into the Accessory wire of the radio.
If your Pioneer radio has a VSS wire you can connect the Gray/Yellow to it.

In the Pioneer AVIC 8500NEX installation manual, it says on the power cord:

Yellow(power)
Red(power with ignition switch on/off) Is this the accessory?
Black(ground)
Orange/white(Illumination)
Violet(Gear position)
Green(Parking brake)
Pink (VSS)
Blue/white(System control power)

I assume the Maestro accessory wire(grey/red) connects to the Pioneer Red wire and Maestro VSS wire (grey/yellow) connects to the Pioneer Pink wire?

Thanks,

you are correct....the Grey/Red to the Red of the radio and the Gray/Yellow to the Pink of the radio.

Hi, one more question. I noticed in the other section of the forum that the people are saying they are getting the "gauge" functions but no TPMS and the other vehicle info on their Nissan vehicles. Since I am flashing the Maestro unit as a 2009 Nissan Pathfinder in this setup, will this be the case with my Toyota Tundra?

Thanks!

We support both gauges and vehicle info on Toyota, but we do not support both on Nissan. You should get gauges and TPMS on the tundra as long as the TPMS sensors are reporting on the data lines.

I'm so sorry for the confusion. Based on what you're doing above, you will NOT get vehicle info. You will just get gauges and check engine light read/reset. However, if you use the full t-harness solution, you can get vehicle info.

OK thank you. Since I bought the T0 harness already, I will do the full setup using the harness.

Hi, I did the setup with the T01 harness and everything seems to be working fine with the gauges and the other info. One more question I have is that in the instruction it says to connect T01 harness "audio cable" to the Pioneer's AUX In. Do I really need to to do this as I really want to keep the radio's AUX In.
Thanks!

The AUX port on the radio becomes dedicated to the Maestro RR for any factory chimes or other audio we need to pass to the radio, whenever it see us connected on the data port. For you to retain an aux in from the truck you would need to use another AV input of some sort on the radio.
