Best radio/module/firmware for carplay, outside temp, and backup steering.

Post by akschu » Tue Jul 09, 2019 4:52 pm

I have a 2017 Ford F-250 XL with the non-sync radio, so I don't have steering wheel controls. This should making putting in an aftermarket radio pretty easy, but I want to retain the following features and add carplay.

Outside air temp
Steering wheel moves lines on the factory backup camera.

I've noticed that not all radios support these things even though the maestro seems to.

Can anyone recommend a radio that does what I want?

Thanks!

I would recommend just using a Maestro compatible radio (Kenwood, JVC, Pioneer, Alpine, Sony) that has Carplay. Outside Temp is one of the things we look for in our Gauges so if the truck has that info on the data bus we'll be able to show it.
Unfortunately the moving parking lines is not something that we can do in the F250 regardless of the radio selected.

Thanks for the feedback.

Is that because the steering position isn't on the data bus?

I looked at the Pioneer, but none of the pages showed outside air temp. Any way to confirm before I buy?

correct about the steering position.
If the vehicle itself has the outside temp info on the Bus (most Fords do) then the radio will show it as long as you are using a Maestro compatible radio.
