2018 Tucson Backup Camera

Post by SlickUnderTheGun » Fri Jul 05, 2019 8:21 am

With a Pioneer DMH-1500NEX, when the gear shift is put in reverse the factory backup camera turns on and works as intended. When the gear shift is not in reverse and the manual camera view is activated only a black screen is shown, presumably because power to the camera is not being triggered by the reverse input signal. Is there a setting I have missed which will activate camera power with the manual button or always have power supplied when the car is in ACC or running? If not, would it be possible to add this feature in a new firmware?

We are planning to update this feature in the next firmware update. The camera will not be on all the time, because that could cause our output to burn out and we don't want to damage the module. Here's how it will work: Go into reverse. Once you leave reverse, the camera output will stay powered for 5 minutes, so if you need to adjust camera lines or settings, you will have an image during that time.

Is it possible for the module to detect when the manual camera view is activated and supply power for 2-5 minutes? Or to possibly have the timer be activated by a steering wheel button hold? The manual camera feature is most useful for checking on a trailer being towed and it would not be possible to shift into reverse in this case.

We're trying to find a way to make the feature work a little better. Will update if/when we have something.
