Pioneer NEX4400 into 2008 Sienna XLE Limited w/OEM nav, JBL

Post by grantg1987 » Wed Jun 26, 2019 11:01 pm

Hello,

I'm having trouble with my Pioneer NEX4400 going into a 2008 Sienna w/factory nav and JBL. I've got sound and backup camera working, along with the OBD gauges and radio working. Can't get Android Auto to fire up - I'm getting the message on my phone about stopping the vehicle and engaging the parking brake. But of course, engaging the brake (in the non-moving car) does not help.

I obviously wired the Pioneer harness with the T01 harness as instructed, leaving off the speaker wires but connecting the rest, including the purple/white, pink and green wires. I've followed those wires through the harness and see that they go into the Maestro, then come out as different colors on the other side.

On the factory side, I've got some unused plugs, which I expected. But looking at the pin diagram for this vehicle, I see there is a 5-pin plug with three wires, and those wires are VSS, parking brake and reverse light. So it makes sense that the radio doesn't know I'm not moving - those wires aren't connected. I have searched far and wide on the internet for someone else who has this problem, but have not found any help. I'm chalking it up to the idea that the factory nav has those wires isolated in a separate plug that wouldn't be there in a non-nav JBL unit, which is what my directions are explaining.

My question then, is without directions, I have no idea how and where to connect these wires. I have no problem cutting the harness and splicing those wires somewhere else, I just don't know where to take them. Hopefully this all makes sense. Thanks in advance for any help!

If you engage the brake does it allow you to use the Android Auto features?

Hi Justin,

No, engaging the foot break has no effect.

Not the foot brake, the parking brake. Pioneer radios require multiple pulses. Put the parking brake ON - OFF - Leave it ON, and see if that works for you.

Hi Dara,

This also did not solve the problem. Nothing ever changes on the radio, or my phone, for that matter. Still getting the stop sign image telling me to stop the car and engage the parking brake to set up Android Auto.

The only other weird thing it's doing is it does keep displaying a message about not having a GPS tuner or something like that. The vehicle was equipped with factory GPS, but the Pioneer radio I have doesn't support integration with the factory GPS antenna.

I've tried every possible combination of pulsing the parking brake to try and get it to work. I've gone slow, I've gone fast. Nothing is getting through.

Is there a way to connect the radio with the wire in the 5-pin gray (pictured elsewhere in the forum here: http://nevillab.org/images/images/random/connect1.jpg) that I know belongs to the parking brake? Just skip the harness altogether? While I'd prefer to have the harness do everything as intended, at this point I'm ready to just have it up and running.

Thanks for any help.

You could definitely hook up manually to the parking brake feed from the car. We may not be seeing the message for parking brake on the data lines, which would keep us from sending it, thus keeping you locked out of the menus.

Just putting a bow on this, I cut the park brake wire off the aforementioned 5-pin harness (wire was red) and spliced it directly into the light green parking brake wire into the stereo wire harness, bypassing the Maestro altogether for that wire. Now everything works and I can move on. Thanks!
