2011 F350 lariat non nav sat retention

Post by CCAutoworks » Tue Jun 11, 2019 11:38 pm

i have a early built 2011 ford f350 Lariat that had the standard radio in it with sat. i replaced this radio with a RR FO1 harness as well as a Pioneer AVIC-5201NEX. I was told that the sat was built into the radio on the 11s but was not in the 10s. my truck has a SDARS (Sat Module) under the steering column that the antenna plugs into. my scan tool still sees the data from the module so im wondering if there is a way i can still retain this in a early built 2011. it was a mid 2010 built truck so im wondering if it was possible one of the hold over trucks that they used up 2010 parts for. if there is a way i can retain this that would be great.. thanks a lot

There are big differences between the 2010 and 2011 trucks; mainly that the steering wheel controls switched from analog to digital. Because of that, the only way to attempt retaining satellite would be a custom firmware.

The only reason we went with your kit is because looking at the install manual for the 11+ trucks it says on your paperwork that it will retain Sirius which is why we went with your system

We do not state we can retain satellite in this vehicle, because in the 2011+ models it is built into the radio.

As a test, you can try flashing it as a 2010 and see if the satellite works. That will give us an indication of whether we could make it work before having an engineer take the time to code something that might not work.

Ok your install guide says for the 2011 install satellite radio. I will pull the module this weekend and try reflashing with a 2010 firmware. And see what happens. Will report back

ok, SO i flashed the module to a 10 to retain SAT Radio and the truck will now recognize the module and put out sound but none of the steering wheel controls will work with a 10 flash. so im not sure where to go from here ? or is there anything else that you need me to do for testing ?

That's why I mentioned the difference in the two model years above; flashing as a 2010 will break your steering wheel controls, because they are a different type. I will talk to the engineer this morning to see if he is able to do a custom firmware for you.

When using the satellite radio when it's flashed as a 2010, are you able to see station and song title information on the radio? We suspect that you don't see any of that information there. We are unable to get the text data from the tuner to show on the radio screen in the 2011+ models, which is why we normally do not support it.

I have a beta firmware ready for you- what is your username so i can send it to your account? You can private message it to me, if you like.

The firmware has been sent to your account. To get it, when you're flashing, select 'flash by user firmware', and there will be a firmware called 'ADS-RR(SR)-FO1_SAT_ON 3.7'. Select it, proceed with the flash. I believe satellite will not show up as an option when you flash it, but it should be hardcoded to ON in the firmware. This is what we expect to see. A few very important steps:

-When you put it back in the truck, please do a reset on the RR with the programming button.

-After the reset, the RR should go through its platform detection of the truck. When it detects the vin and says 'platform 2 detected', press the reset button on the RR one time. The screen should give you a message/option to manually select platform 1. Finish the platform detection and give it a try.

I got the firmware you sent uploaded to the maestro and I reset it but when I went to do the platform selection I could not get it to switch over to platform 1. I pressed the button when it said that and it would not do anything but continue as platform 2
