2013 Tacoma, Alpine ilx-107, Maestro RR and Compustar Remote Start

Post by Gonzo1982 » Tue Jun 11, 2019 5:37 pm

I have a 2013 Tacoma and a Alpine ilx-107 with a compustar remote start that works great with the odb connection off for the maestro. When I connect the odb, the truck acts like it’s going to start and stops. I have it disconnected now in order to use the remote start but it’s an awfully expensive setup for something I can’t fully use.

how many wires off the Compustar are going to the OBD2 connector? 2 or 3?

I'm not sure? The compustar has to be installed by the dealer so I'm not sure what they did and their solution to both the RR and Remote Start was to remove the RR ODB till a firmware was released by either Alpine or RR. It's probably something I can look under and see?

yes, if you look on the backside of the OBD2 connector you will see where they tapped into the wires (probably tape covering the connections). you can use the OBD2 connector from us to see if their connections line up with the wires are connecting to.

I believe it's three, it's hard to tell. Either way, what's needed in each case so I can take it to the installer and tell them what needs to be done.

on our OBD2 connector there is a Gray/Red wire. I would just cut that wire (leave some slack to reconnect it), reconnect the OBD2 connector to the car, and see if the truck acts properly just as a test.

Wow, that fixed it! What was the issue with that one wire?

ok....well what we did was figure out which wire was the cause, not necessarily "fixed" it yet. That wire provides the TPMS information to the RR and then to the radio. So what I want you to do is trace that Gray/Red wire back into the main T-Harness. you'll need to cut back some of that fuzzy tape in the harness and locate where that Gray/Red wire goes into a circuit board with heat shrink covering it. You will see on the other end of heat shrink the Gray/Red wire goes back out. Cut both Gray/Red wires away from the heat shrink and connect them together.
let's test again once that is done.

Can you provide a picture layout of what I'm needing to do, it's really tight underneath and hard to see where I'm needing to go. Is it only the TPMS data that's not working currently? I was able to see data on the head unit currently.

that Gray/Red wire is only for TPMS...so that's the only thing you won't see with that wire disconnected.

Where you need to get at is behind the radio for the Gray/Red wire and not at the OBD2 connector.

or better yet take it back to the installer who did the remote start and have him put a relay on that wire so it won't interfere with the remote start.

Ok, this is fuzzy to me.

"you'll need to cut back some of that fuzzy tape in the harness and locate where that Gray/Red wire goes into a circuit board with heat shrink covering it. You will see on the other end of heat shrink the Gray/Red wire goes back out. Cut both Gray/Red wires away from the heat shrink and connect them together."

Can you give me some kind of visuals on what you need me to do? I can get behind the radio, but can you give me an actual picture, with some arrows of what you're wanting me to do?

Do I need to reattach the cut cable before hand?

no, leave it disconnected for now so the remote start works like intended.
