Reverse Camera Voltage 2011 Tacoma

Post by rlovelett » Fri May 31, 2019 9:36 am

I have a 2011 Tacoma with an OEM reverse camera in the rear-view mirror. I know that technically the reverse camera is not supported on a 2011 Tacoma.

I found the connector in the dash that carries the video signal and power for the camera. I've made a custom connector that plugs into the OEM harness and attached it to the RR/TO1 harness to no avail. With a little bit more debugging with a variable bench power supply and digital multimeter I found the OEM camera requires ~6V to turn on (the actual OEM line seems to be closer to 7V above common) but the RR/T01 harness is outputting ~5V (measured 4.97V) on the blue with green-yellow stripe wire.

The question, is there something that can be programmed on the RR to output a higher voltage? Or do I need to provide another mechanism to get the necessary 6V?

You don't need to power the camera since the truck is already doing it for you in this trim. All you have to do is get video signal and run it down to the radio.

That's certainly one way to do it. But with that approach, as far as I can tell, to extract the video signal from the OEM connectors/wires I would have to splice the OEM wires. I don't want to splice any OEM wires. I just wanted to unplug the OEM connector and plug it into my own.

if that is the case I would recommend making a harness with both the male and female connectors on it, have all the wires you are not using pass through, and then have a video cable come off that plugs into the camera input of the radio. This way you have not cut into any wiring.
