2010 Prius w/JBL + Maestro RR + TO1 + AVH-2440NEX

Post by hucker73 » Tue May 21, 2019 6:53 pm

I've just installed a Pioneer AVH-2440NEX in my 2010 Toyota Prius w/ JBL using a Maestro RR and TO1. Everything is working as advertised. The steering wheel functions do what they're supposed to except when I use the buttons on the Head Unit itself. If I use the Volume buttons, the Application button, the Top Menu Screen button, the Menu Bar button, the Back button, or the Microphone button (basically all buttons along the bottom to the HU), it renders all steering wheel functionality inoperable. I can get functionality back to the steering wheel by turning off and restarting the car, although this is not ideal when driving ;) Is this how it's supposed to operate? I've updated the AVH-2440NEX Firmware to the latest version and I've flashed the RR to the most recent version. Any ideas what's wrong? Thank you in advance!

check on the back of the radio and make sure there is nothing plugged into the W/R port. If there is unplug it, that would cause the symptoms as you described.

Thanks for the quick response, Bill! By W/R port do you mean the audio white and red plugs? I'd post a picture of the back of my HU but I can't figure out how to, lol.

No. The port is a 3.5mm/headphone type port, labeled W/R or wired remote

Yep, that was it. Pulling the 3.5 mm jack out or the W/R port fixed it. Thanks guys!

Although I ran into another problem...

I figured since I had the HU out, I'd flash the RR to customize the steering wheel buttons (I didn't like the Seek/Preset options so I switched them). So after a successful flash (according to the WebLink Desktop program I ran via my MacBook) I reinstalled everything and made sure to not plug in the W/R. Now the steering wheel buttons don't work at all. I do recall during my very first install, it took a few power up/down to get total functionality from the steering wheel. Is this normal? I did notice the RR had a flashing red light coming from it when I reinstalled after the program flash. Should I try flashing it again?

the flashing red light lets us know that the Maestro and the radio are not communicating. Check that you plugged in the Black 4 pin data cable into the back of the radio (there is only one place it will fit) and make sure the other end of that cable is plugged into the Maestro right next to the USB where you connected it to flash it.
The flash looks good and all the info is the same so it's probably the data cable.

I was able to get the flashing red light to go away and everything is working perfectly. I'm not sure it was the cable you mentioned because it was securely in place. I did notice the Weblink Desktop program had an update, it happened to come out the day of (or after) I flashed my RR. I re-flashed it yesterday and now everything is great. Thanks to everyone who chimed in! Take care!
