Any issues with disabling UConnect and using new HU phone?

Post by tooldad » Tue May 21, 2019 3:02 pm

I about to install a Pioneer AVH-1550NEW head unit into my 2017 Wangler. I have the Maestro RR, the CH1 wire harness, a SAT1 cable and USB1 cable.

My question... What is the recommendation regarding disabling UConnect?

What I am thinking is that I can run the Head Units new microphone up to the stock microphone location. And I can connect the head unit to the UConnect's USB port. And then program Maestro RR to not use UConnect and use the steering wheel phone buttons for use with the new head unit's phone system.

Is this the recommended approach? Any issues I should be aware of or downsides?

Thanks.

Most people's hang up is not wanting to lose the factory microphone. Beyond that, your pioneer will do pretty much everything that the uconnect would do.

I guess I will take a look at how hard it is to run a new mic up to the existing location, and then decide what to do. I've seen some videos on doing that. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't losing some needed functions by doing this. Sounds like I won't. Thanks Zack.

Only word of advice is be careful when routing the cable for the mic, and avoid hindering any curtain airbags when you run it up the a pillar area.

Good advice. Thanks for pointing that out. I wouldn't have thought about that.
