2013 Venza with Pioneer intermittent issues

Post by ando » Fri May 17, 2019 5:08 pm

Car Details:
- 2013 Toyota Venza XLE
- Factory Nav with JBL

Equipment installed:
- Pioneer DMH-1500NEX with CarPlay
- Maestro RR flashed with latest FW
- T01 Harness

Installed a couple of months ago and everything worked great for a while. A few weeks ago I started my car and noticed there was music coming out of one speaker only. I stopped and restarted the car and everything was normal again. Since then, I have had the following intermittent issues:

- Music playing out of one side (multiple speakers)
- Music playing out of one speaker
- No sound at all - All sources (Can see the music counter going) Tried Carplay, Bluetooth, Radio, etc.
- HU had 1 to 2 minute delay before powering on

The above issues happen sporadically, but always just after the car is started. I am not sure if the cause is the Maestro or a flaky HU so I am hoping someone can help.

Thanks

I have seen this once before in a 17 Tacamo using the same radio and it was a defective radio. swapped radio to another model pioneer and all has been good. You can check to see if Pioneer possible has a firmware update to address the issue.

Thanks Justin,

I did update the firmware a little while ago. I am trying to think if the problems started before or after the update. I will try to call Pioneer CS to see if maybe I can roll back and see if it goes away.

I was wondering if anyone knew where to get older versions of firmware for Pioneer HU's. I have the newest version from their website and wanted to roll back to the original version that I had before the upgrade. I tried to call Pioneer CS but after 45 min of waiting I gave up.

I’m sure Pioneer would have to send that firmware file to you.

I contacted Pioneer and they said it is not possible to downgrade he firmware and they do not post older versions for this reason. I am wondering if my issue is with the RR as it happened again the other day. The radio appears to work fine as I can see the track time advancing while playing a song. It is getting a little frustrating having to pull over and re-start my car to get things back to normal. Is there a warranty on the RR? Can I submit an RMA request to have it replaced to see if this fixes it?

Thanks
Andy

Warranty issues are handled through the retailer in which the unit is purchased. But as I mentioned previously I have seen this issue before using this firmware and others not even using a maestro. The resolution in all cases was to replace the radio with a different model radio.

I have seen the sound from only left side speaker several times, and my solution is going to the balance/ fader setting then press right side once then go back and the sound will be normal.

My car is 2016 Prius w/ JBL NAV, Pioneer W4400NEX f/w 1.01, Maestro RR f/w 2.6.

any solution to this yet? I just had a customer with a 2011 venza with JBL and factory nav. Installed a pioneer avh-2550nex. He had the same issue with no sound occasionally and would have to shut it off and restart and it would work again.

Does shutting off the radio, using the radio power, not turning the whole car off, and then turning it back on resolve the issue?

I came here to post the exact same issue in my wife's 2008 Highlander LTD with JBL. we are running a JVC head unit, so because people with different model HUs are getting the same issue, i would blame the Maestro. Going into audio and adjusting the fader brings the audio back, but thats not an acceptable resolution. What can we do? I am tempted to just go buy an AXXESS and move on, but i really like the maestro and want to keep it...

Be happy to assist in getting your install patched up however i just want to understand 100%. Are you are experiencing all 4 of the exact same issues as the OP?

Thanks for the reply - I have three of the OP’s 4 issues, I haven’t had any delay powering on... the audio issues are the same though. Sometimes changing the fader/balance fixes it, but sometimes it doesn’t so the wife just gives up and drives in silence. I have updated to the most recent firmware both on the HU and the Maestro, at least it was current as of 6 months ago. Haven’t checked for updates recently....

Ok the issues the OP was experiencing were definitely radio related. You may be experiencing an issue with the AVLAN communication between the maestro and the OEM amplifier which we have seen in the past as well. There have been a few posts here where we give the solution but if you'd like to call us when you have some time and access to the maestro module to do a little troubleshooting we'd be glad to assist.
