OBDII port and RR power draw?

Post by Mazda3 » Sun May 12, 2019 12:58 pm

I just installed an RR and a JVC headunit into my 2010 Mazda3 sedan. I took a male OBDII port and soldered the required wires from the RR to the directed 6 and 14 pins avoiding any splicing behind the car's factory port. My battery is dying and even though the JVC unit shuts off with the car and everything works - is leaving the OBD connection what's killing my battery?

Thanks!

Michael

I highly doubt it. If you wired the Rr correctly, the module should be powering off when you turn off the car.

Emperically I've confirmed as much, even leaving it unplugged my battery still died. I'll have the battery checked and see if it was just coincidence it died during the install. Thanks!

Yes; the mazda uses a completely different firmware so your content isn't necessarily relevant to this user's thread.

My content was mostly about checking the current draw with a multimeter.
