ADS-RR(SR)-CHR03-DS (512) (3.4)

Post by mochs » Sat Mar 23, 2019 5:17 pm

I Re-flashed my RR just now to reconfigure the steering wheel buttons. It had version 3.1 on it and this updated it to 3.4.

Upon putting everything back together in my 2014 Durango, I noticed I have now lost everything on the "Controls" screen in Climate Display. This was Mirror Dimmer, Heated Steering Wheel, and Folding 3rd row headrest. They are listed there, but are all greyed out.

I brought the RR back in and re-flashed it again in case something didn't go right, but the same thing happened.

It was there in 3.1 because I used the folding headrest many times before. Were these features removed in the firmware update?

does the Maestro interface blink at you when the ignition is on? We updated that firmware a month ago and we haven't had any reports of issues. I just want to make sure the Maestro is communicating with your radio properly first.

Hi Bill,

I'll have to pull the dash and check again...I'm REALLY thinking about putting a USB cable permanently connected to the Maestro and leaving it hang below the dash somewhere so I don't have to keep taking the dash apart to get the Maestro out when there's an update. I would imagine the days of a bluetooth chip on the Maestro for programming can't be far off, eh? :)

Anyway, what I DO know is that it did blink red when the car first starts up then settles down to green. It did also blink whenever I pressed any of the steering wheel control buttons too.

On a side note...wasn't there an option to have the seek up/down buttons do FF/RW when held down? I could swear I used to be able to do track up/down with a push and if I held it, could scrub through the track..

i went ahead and put the 3.1 version back into your account so we can test to see if all the climate stuff shows back up. If you take the RR back out, connect it back to the computer, and select "Flash by User Firmware" you will find the 3.1 version. flash with that and let me know if the info shows back up.

Hi Bill -

Yes, confirmed...those controls are greyed out in 3.4.

I started with 3.4, and flashed back to 3.1 and the controls were now available. Flashed back to 3.4 and they became unavailable again. I snapped some pics, but don't see any way to attach them here...

To be clear - it is only one set of controls that are on the same screen: the Mirror Dimmer, Heated Steering Wheel and the Headrest Fold. Every other screen seems to be fine. They're accessed by tapping 'controls' on the climate screen. The screen is still there in both firmware versions, it's just that in 3.4 all 3 controls are greyed out.

Interestingly, it seems to be able to read the state of those controls as Mirror Dimming shows set to On, they just can't be changed.

I have reverted back to 3.1 for now until a fix has been made or if you want more testing done. I'd be glad to do that.

So the engineers have fixed whatever the issue was so now you'll be able to access the settings with the latest firmware. if you want to reflash and give it a go and let us know I would appreciate it.

Issue not resolved. Just went out and flashed back up to 3.4 and lost that page of controls again.

Also disappointed to find that my idea of putting a USB cable in the dash for flashing won't work because apparently laptop USB ports don't put out enough power to power up the RR so it can be recognized. So now I have no choice but to keep ripping the dash apart and risk breaking something every time I want to update it.

when you go into your climate screen does it look like this (or similar to)? Is there a heated wheel?

as for the USB, you can leave it plugged into the Maestro but whenever you need to flash it you need to pull the fuse(s) that go to the stereo or just unhook the battery cable. The USB won't work if it detects the Maestro having any other power going to it.

Your link ends up at a 404 error page, but I'll try to post some images here...
If these links don't work, give me an email address and I'll send them as attachments.

With the factory 8.4 Unconnect head unit in, it would look like this:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/sxk0szp58fwbp ... .jpeg?dl=0

Yes, there is a heated wheel (and heated seats).

With the RR and my Kenwood DMX7704s, the climate screen looks like this:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/ersh3uznm4xrt ... 7.jpg?dl=0

If I tap "Controls" in the center, I get this:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/w6u6ybw4xjcmc ... 5.jpg?dl=0

This is the issue - those 3 settings (Mirror Dimmer, Heated Wheel, and Headrest Fold) are greyed out in 3.4, but worked in 3.1. The top shot is 3.1, the bottom one is 3.4:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/65ogn08v0dc1e ... 8.jpg?dl=0
https://www.dropbox.com/s/lxzenfmxc26lz ... 1.jpg?dl=0

Back on the main climate screen, there's a 2nd way to get to these same controls by tapping "Settings" instead of "Control"...then you end up here:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/k9r303ttvv5z2 ... 5.jpg?dl=0

and if you tap 'Controls' you end up at the same screen:

we're looking into the code again, the engineer used your pictures and now has a better idea of what's needed.

Bill,
Could you put 3.1 back in my firmware choices? I think I've found another issue with 3.4, but I want to flash back to 3.1 to be sure.

Thanks. There is definitely something wrong, but I can't pinpoint what yet.

Basically, if I disconnect my phone from USB using Android Auto, when I connect it again, I have to choose another music player to get my original one to work again.

As an example, I usually use Rocket Player inside Android Auto. If I have it playing, stop somewhere and unplug the usb to take phone with me (like to work), then get back in (like going to lunch) and plug the phone back in, Rocket Player will not work until I switch to another player (like Google Music), wait for a song to start, and THEN I can go back to Rocket Player and it will work.

By 'not working', I really mean no audio. Cover art is there, and time indicator shows the track is playing, but there's no sound.

I also lose steering wheel controls when this happens too. On the left side, I have track up/down and pause for the center button, and volume up/down and climate control on the right. When this happens, the climate control button is the only one that still does something. The rest do not until I switch to another audio player and then switch back.

So it could be nearly anything at this point - Maestro firmware, an Android Auto or Rocket Player update I wasn't aware of...who knows..will be a pain to troubleshoot.

My signal path is: Rocket Player on a Samsung Galaxy S10+ connected to a Kenwood DMX-7704S via USB played through Android Auto.
