2017 Tundra w/JBL powering on without ignition

Post by damianpeiris123 » Mon Jan 21, 2019 2:31 pm

I have a Maestro RR installed with the TO2 Harness to integrate a Pioneer W4400NEX to my JBL Tundra. Everything except the Phone buttons(Pickup and Hang-up) seemed to be working. Recently I had to boost the truck after parking it outside in -40C weather. I thought it was the weather that killed the battery but was keeping an eye on the radio because I have a 132mA current draw when the truck is parked. When the battery died I hooked up a trickle charger providing 1.1A and I noticed the radio turning on and off every couple of seconds with the key out of the ignition. When I removed the trickle charger it went away. Today when I turned the ignition off the radio turned OFF but turned back ON by it self after a few seconds. I have been parking the truck in a warm garage so the weather was not the culprit. I have ready the OBDII wire has been doing this people on different forums. This doesn't happen all the time so it's hard to troubleshoot it. I was wondering if this is a common issue and if there a fix for it. Thanks.

If you remove the OBD2 plug, does the radio turn on and off like it should? If that's the case, see the tech document I attached on how to resolve it.

Thanks for the reply. I will unplug it and check how it responds. Will this disable my TPMS readings? I can install a diode in series if that helps better. I was also wondering if you would have an idea why my phone buttons on the steering wheel doesn't work. I checked the programming twice and it's programed properly.

I also have a 2017 Tundra with JBL and have the exact same issue (except my controls work). I have the pioneer 2440. It flattened my battery. I also notice there is a new firmware. should i update that as well since now i have to take my dash apart again. i didn't realize i was buying a product that wasn't fully tested and we get to be guinea pigs at the expense of a new battery. i feel sorry for people that cant do this kind of work themselves and would have to pay someone to repair this bad design.

Re-wiring it should fix the issue. We have since made updates to the firmware, but unless you are having functionality issues with the module, there is no need to re-flash.

Have similar issue, Tundra 2017 installed an ALPINE halo 9 with mestro RR AND TO2 I have similar issue with OBD2 plugged in, the head unit will not turn off when ignition is off. Second, I can't get into the setup of the unit when in park and e-brake engaged.

Yes. With the OBD2 removed the head unit turns on and off with ignition as expected. I was hoping I will not have to rip out my dash again but I guess we learn as we go. I will follow the resistor removal instructions and give you an update. Thanks for the reply.

This is frustrating to say the least 😡 After I ripped my dash out for the second time and followed the remove resistor PDF my tire pressure and transmission temp are no longer showing. Is there a solution or I should close everything up and call it the day???? And yes, the unit now turns on/off as it should and yes, the TPMS and transmission temp were working before I removed the stupid resistor.

A few things; try resetting your RR. This can be done in the OEM settings of the radio. It sounds like the Gray/Red isn't running to the RR anymore. We have seen a ton (probably around a thousand) tundras flashed and this feature works pretty consistently. I would just have you check to make sure the gray/red is still making a path from the OBD2 to the RR, and that when you cut the resistor out you didn't accidentally sever the wire.
