2017 Forester XT w/Nav and HK Audio - Need to verify a few things for install

Post by Jon 2017 FXT » Fri Jan 11, 2019 12:12 pm

Hi,
I've been doing copious research/reading and am just about ready to "pull the trigger" on a head unit upgrade on my FXT. I have a couple questions I'm hoping I can get some answers to before I click the "Buy Now" button.

Here is my planned install:
1304400NEX Pioneer AVH-W4400NEX
794HRRSU2 iDatalink HRN-RR-SU2
794ADSMRR iDatalink Maestro ADS-MRR
142SU2031B Scosche SU2031B Subaru Kit
12040LX11 Toyota & Lexus antenna adapter
APSUUSB2 Dual USB Aux Adapter for Subaru Forester (to retain 1 of the 2 center armrest USB and AUX)

Here are my questions:
1) I assume I'll need to use/wire in the Pioneer microphone and not use the factory one with the upgrade. Is that correct?
2) I assume the Maestro will supply 6v to the factory backup camera and I won't need to purchase a step-down converter. Right?
3) With this setup and the workarounds, I assume I'll have everything I had with the factory audio setup (minus one USB input) and all the extras from the Maestro. Right?
4) Am I missing anything else (major) for the install? I don't think so.

That's it. Many thanks for the input.

Jon

1) Yes.
2) Yes. You do not need a stepdown converter.
3) Yes, with the exception of your factory XM. It is built into the OEM radio, so it cannot be retained.
4) If you wish to have satellite radio, you would need to add an aftermarket satellite tuner.

Another question. I'm in the process of setting up the SU2 harness to the radio main harness. Do I also connect the yellow/black wire on the SU2 harness to the yellow/black on the radio harness (mute)? The Maestro wiring diagram does not show a yellow/black mute wire.
Thanks,
Jon

Ok, I've done the installation and everything is working except for my AM radio. All I get is soft static. No reception.

I have all the wires on the SU2 harness connected to the main head unit harness properly, except for the solid blue one. When I connect it to the blue/white on the head unit all sound cuts out (AM and FM).

What wires to I need to connect together to get the am to work? I believe it is the AM powered antenna signal that needs to be connected to the blue/white wire of the head unit. Which one is the car's AM powered amplifer signal wire?

Thanks,
Jon

there is a blue wire in our 6 pin connector that also has purple, purple/black, green, and green/black in it. Clip the blue wire there and isolate it with tape, then connect the blue wire you were connecting earlier to the blue/white.

There isn't a dedicated wire for AM reception. If the antenna is powered, both AM and FM are powered from the same circuit. Do you have FM reception?

Yeah, so I finally figured that out from an old post. You need to cut the blue wire in the 6-pin. FWIW, it would have saved me several hours or effort if that was in the instructions. Thanks for the follow up.
