2014 subaru forester with Navigation and Harman Kardon

Post by samsfisher » Mon Dec 31, 2018 10:33 pm

Hello,

I am installing Pioneer 4400 NEX in my 2014 subaru forester with Navi and HK. I am also using datalink RR and SU2 harness. below are my questions/concerns

1. In my forester the backup camera is displayed in multi functional display unit above the Navi. Does SU2 support backup camera in that case? How easy is it to wire the backup camera. If not, can i disable backup camera input to the Pioneer Head unit
2. There is only one Aux input in Pioneer HU. Should i connect the AUX wire from SU2 harness or the 3.5MM line from Maestro RR
3. Carplay and everything works: But the microphone is not working. Checked all the wiring connections but to no avail.
4. Since this unit doesnt have GPS does it make sense to connect the GPS sensor to the HU. What functionality does it provide?

Thanks
Uma

1- you can grab the signal wires from the connector at the screen, solder on a RCA and plug it directly into the new radios camera input. or if you'd like just go into the radios setting and disable camera interruption.
2- the 3.5mm should go into the AUX input and feed the AUX wire from the SU2 in to the AV input if the radio has one. just one of the limitations of using a Pioneer
3- did you run the microphone from Pioneer? that is the only thing that will work with Carplay. if so, contact Pioneer for support
4- Connect the provide GPS antenna. You can hide it under the dash so long as it is not obstructed by any metal. This will ensure when using CarPlay maps that they are as accurate as possible.

Hi Justin

Thanks for the response.

1) Do you know if the provided harness connects into the mfd unit? I believe the mfd uses a 8 pin connector
2) what about climate control for Subaru ? It’s greyed out in pioneer

Justin,
Can you clarify this from your comment you made earlier in this post?

2- the 3.5mm should go into the AUX input and feed the AUX wire from the SU2 in to the AV input if the radio has one. just one of the limitations of using a Pioneer

Does the Maestro 3.5mm plug go into the AUX at the head unit or does the 3.5mm plug from the SU2 harness plug into the head unit?
Thanks,
Jon

Hey I connected to the connector D and wired per the manual. Yellow goes to backup cam input and the red is connected to harness.

Still the backup cam comes in the mfd and not in the pioneer unit. How can I fix it

Jon- the Audio cable (3.5mm) from the MRR goes into the Pioneers Aux input in most applications, this would be one where it is not needed. However, the radio AUX input is inoperable when the MRR plugged in. So in this case the SU2 also has an AUX cable which will need to got to the Pioneer's AVIN- input. Pioneer and Alpine are both like this.

Sam- If the camera is in the MFD screen you are going to need to identify the signal wires for the camera there and solder an RCA to them and then feed that RCA into the aftermarket radio
