2016 jetta gli vw2/vw1 harness?

Post by rgoalie22 » Tue Nov 20, 2018 8:47 am

I feel like I'm back on the old watercooler asking a tech question...

Anywho, The Fit Guide shows a 2016 jetta (GLI with nav unit) would use a VW2 harness. Aside from the 'backorder' status at abt.com, I cannot seem to find a place to source the VW2 harness, but I can find many sources for the VW1 including at the blue box.

Would the VW1 actually be able to put in, with the possible exception of the no retention of the OEM backup camera and OEM aux port? Fender amp is already bypassed with a seperate 4 channel, so it is mainly just the data connection portion that is of interest. D2D ftw!

The VW1 and VW2 harness are very similar; the big difference is that constant, ground, and can are populated in different places in the radio plug. It can be done if you move those wires to the correct positions.

Thanks for the reply, it worked out well with the vw1 harness and getting the different power, ground, and CAN pins.

As a follow up from reading KEN-RR(SR)-VW01-DS-OG (which is older i can see), using a Kenwood ddx9905s:
It seems like there is an option for Factory BT or Kenwood BT - however, after removing the VW MIB2 Nav unit - my phone will no longer connect to the VW Bluetooth, and only connects to the Kenwood Bluetooth (even if I forget the Kenwood BT connection). It does seem like there is the telephone module still under the passenger seat.

Perhaps something with the MIB2 nav unit handling Factory BT different than older VWs and factory BT may not be utilized?

The maestro settings has been verified/set to use Factory BT via the Kenwood's screen options.

I can check/test things if it is desired on the car - or I can just roll with putting in the Kenwood's mic and just using Kenwood's BT.

Have a great day!

Looks like while I actually try to select VW BT, it doesn't change from Kenwood BT selection in BT selection through the maestro screen on the Kenwood unit.

Will just use the Kenwood BT/mic. But as a heads up with the MIB NAV unit getting replaced, it doesn't seem like the VW BT is available like previous models.

Not to hijack here but could you tell me where to repopulate those pins to? Planning on using the VW1 harness on an MK7 GTI using Jetta firmware. Steering wheel looks the same, might work. Also looking for a solution for keeping OEM backup cam if you happen to know. Thank you!

If you have a newer GTI, we do not cover that car yet because the coding is different. Unfortunately, on this one, you'll need to wait until the VW2 firmware is ready.
