Tahoe/Yukon/Suburban (2007-2014) Rear Seat Entertainment Controls / Dual Zone not working as advertised with Pioneer NEX

Post by Jagsta » Fri Nov 02, 2018 1:30 pm

Does anyone here have properly functioning Rear Seat Entertainment controls with their Pioneer NEX Radio and GM5+ harness (and AVGM5 harness)for a 2007 to 2014 Tahoe/Yukon/Suburban/Escalade? I have a 2007 Yukon XL Denali, I hooked everything up and the rear console only changes the main source of the radio whether the rear control is on or off, unlike the idatalink manual which states it will control the rear source for the Pioneer radio if it's on. The audio from the headphone jacks also only output the front source audio and while the volume controls for the two rear headphone jacks work, they are dependent on the main source volume which makes absolutely no sense (why even have headphones if the vehicle speakers and headphone volume are dependent on each other?).

Idatalink is claiming this is because Pioneer won't give them the code to control rear seat entertainment/dual zine for the NEX radios and never has. I figured if that was the case I would at least see some complaint about it, but I don't see any when I search so I am skeptical.

Does anyone have this setup and have it functioning correctly?

If it truly doesn't work then IDatalink needs to stop advertising it does. When asked why the manual put out by Idatalink for the Pioneer radio states that he told me "The people who write the manual aren't the engineers and don't always speak with each other" or some such. I'm sorry but that's unacceptable, if the functionality doesn't work then they need to remove it from the manual and stop advertising that it does.

The Pioneer Owner's Guide is being updated to remove the way the Source button functions. This is a function that is only capable with a Kenwood radio unfortunately. Sorry for the inconvience.

Justin,

Thanks for the reply - is there any point in me contacting Pioneer to submit a request for them to open up the API to allow the functionality or do you think it's futile? Appreciate your's and iDatalink's quick response, I wish Kenwood had a wireless Carplay radio...

we have asked for a dedicated audio input and they still wont give us that so my thoughts are its probably not going to do any good.

That's ridiculous, sounds like Kenwood is a lot easier to work with. Do they have a Wireless Carplay receiver on the horizon?

Kenwood was one of our first partners so they do get some functionality that others do not. as for wireless carplay that i do not know. while it is a cool feature, my opinion on it is wifi eats up the phones battery pretty quick which means it needs to be charged often. so my phone is almost always plugged in to the usb when i am in the car so wireless carplay while in theory is cool it is not practical to me. again thats just me you may feel completely different but it is a good question to ask kenwood and why their units dont do it.
