RR - avh-w4400nex questions 18 tundra

Post by Steal25 » Mon Oct 08, 2018 12:26 pm

I have the maestro RR and an avh-w4400nex in a 2018 tundra Crewmax , I just have a few questions and concerns-

I've reflashed and reset the module a few times and still can't get
the phone (answer/hang up) on the steering wheel to work. Is that normal or did I miss a setting?

Sometimes the steering wheel controls are unresponsive and I need to power down the power up the radio to get them to work.

Is there a way to add as a steering wheel control option/shortcut for camera? I think that would be very useful for all brands of vehicles/head units which could toggle between backup and front camera.

And to add to the last question/comment maybe just more choices for SW controls in general?

Thank you for any info you can give!

It sounds like you have something plugged into the W/R of the radio. This will cause your steering wheel controls to work intermittently. There should be nothing in the W/R port. Perhaps you have the audio cable plugged in? If so, that should be moved to the AUX on the Pioneer.

If the option for activating front camera is not in the drop-down list, then it is not an option on this radio.

On thank you for that info, I'll check and make sure I have those plugged in properly. What about the phone controls on the steering wheel?

Check the W/R port on the radio as Dara suggested first. That can cause things to work intermittently or not at all. The thing you could check would be to see if you get LED response from the RR when you press the phone buttons on the wheel. That will tell us if we are seeing the info from the vehicle, and if it is an issue with the radio communication/function.

Any idea what the red blinks for those buttons might mean?

Red blinks are perfect! The maestro gives you green blinks for circuit 1, and red blinks fo rsteering circuit 2. If we're blinking red, it means we're seeing you press the button and executing the command. I still suspect having something plugged into W/R is the issue.

I don't see any flashing history under your forum-registered email address, and i need to see your programming to look into this a little deeper. To further troubleshoot this, I would need that information. The best bet would be to have you call us on our tech support line with this information, and troubleshoot with us in real-time when you're in the truck. The phone number is in my signature.

I know the radio is getting the signal, if I push volume up or down and the volume pop up is shown on the screen it will usually show for approx 5 seconds. But if while it is shown and I press either answer or hang up it will dissappear like it's receiving a signal just not the right one. Hope that makes sense.

Are you testing answer/hang up in all sources, or do you primarily use carplay? We have seen radios have firmware bugs where they ignore the commands when in certain sources. This is what it sounds like is happening; if we are blinking when you press the button, and all the other steering wheel buttons are working as they should, then it sounds as if the radio is ignoring the command when we send it.

after finally being able to troubleshoot this i have come to the conclusion that the answer/hang up buttons only work with the stock pioneer dialer not the android auto dialer. not sure about car play as i only use android auto. So is this something that can be fixed on idatalinks end or is it something pioneer needs to address?

That's a pioneer thing. The maestro doesn't pay attention to what source you're in or how your phone is connected. We see you hit answer or hang up, and the light on the RR blinks, indicating that it has sent the command to the radio. If the radio doesn't respond to it in certain sources, that would indicate an issue with the radio firmware.

On my pioneer unit the phone buttons don’t do anything (except beep, so I know pioneer recurved the signal) unless I am in wireless CarPlay and actively in or receiving a call. Then the buttons answer or hang up the call.

I'm facing almost the exact same thing. 2019 Tundra (JBL), avic-w8400nex. Phone answer/hang-up non-functional under Android Auto. Did you get anywhere with this?
