'11 Tacoma - Possible to get OEM rear camera on Pioneer NEX?

Post by ezatnova » Fri Oct 05, 2018 1:19 pm

I have a maestro RR with a Pioneer AVH-1440NEX head unit. My '11 Tacoma has the OEM backup camera which functions in the rear view mirror.

Is there any way to get that picture to show up on the Pioneer either along with the mirror or instead of the mirror?

Related to this, I believe I heard that, much like the parking brake, this Tacoma will not send a signal to the maestro indicating that the truck is in Reverse, which may complicate things, but maybe not, if the signal is just being duplicated from the OEM signal going to the mirror? Not sure if it's relevant or not, but the Pioneer (until I changed the Rear Cam setting to OFF) would go to a blank screen, looking for a rear camera, when I put the truck into reverse. I believe I read that the head unit detects the voltage change of going into reverse and activates that rear camera view.

you should be able to grab the signal for the camera at the mirror. Solder on a RCA and run it to the new radios input

There wouldn't be an input into the idatalink maestro and then to the head unit?

No, Justin's answer is correct. The signal doesn't go through the maestro because it doesn't need to.

The video feed runs from the camera up to the rear-view mirror. We don't pick up the signal because there are no video wires run into the radio cavity where we connect.
