2010 Shelby & Kenwood eXcelon DMX905S

Post by Kuchulainn » Wed Jul 25, 2018 11:29 pm

Hi guys,

A year ago, bought a second hand 2010 Ford Mustang GT500. The previous owner upgraded to a Kenwood DNX9990 head unit, with a MUS1 dash kit and Maestro RR module. Fast forward to a month ago, the head unit dies on me, time to upgrade.

I acquired a DMX905S (listed as compatible), flashed the RR module with the latest firmware and the serial of the new head unit, but no matter how many time I try again, it is not working (the icons on the DMX905S are grayed out, the MUS1 switches don't work, and neither do the steering wheel buttons).

Any pointers?

I'm pretty certain you're missing your data cable (all black cable, with 4 pins on both ends) - the DNX9990 didn't use it, and the newer kenwoods require it for data communication. Replacement data cables can be purchased for $15 shipped in the US.

Hi Dara,

We finally got it to work (by replacing the RR module to its newer version). But the switches from the MUS-1 dash kit are not functioning (and the back lights are flickering). Is there an additional cable needed?

You shouldn't need any additional hardware. What is the serial number of the maestro? We need to check the programming to troubleshoot any further.

When you flashed, you didn't select the MUS1 as an accessory. Because of that, the buttons aren't going to be programmed to do anything. Re-flash, select the dash kit, and it will give you the option to program them in step 6 of the flashing process.
